Check out this deal from Newegg. It is an XFX AMD R9 280X, which is more performance for less. Yes, less money, $149.99 after 20 dollar rebate, a steal.

Forgot to post the link @sammy: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150705&cm_re=amd_r9_280x-_-14-150-705-_-Product

Try and stay away from GPU's that have only 256 bit memory plane access, even a r9 380 2gig 256 bit card will perform slower than the card I mentioned here. You can find 512 bit r9 380x 3 gig card for $220.00 at Newegg.

The card that you're proposing comes with 256 bit memory plane, you can look at the specs from this link oh, it's less expensive at newegg too:

I have the same version not the same brand, I like ASUS. It plays mostly all games at 1080p smooth. I drive a 1440p and a 1152p display with it.

Lots of case fans so cooling shouldnt be a problem.  I have read the 300 series are just rebrands. There is always nvidia but I do think about power requirements. I figure 700w is enough so long as I dont plan on doing two cards. Which I dont.

700w will be just fine.

Do you have an Intel chip or AMD. That's how I decide which one to get from past experience. Asus at one time if you got a mobo from them you were bet to get a Asus video card. Not sure if that is changed but it just make me stay away from Asus.

Yup an all around card.  Most taxing thing I would do on it is probably UE4.

For the price that looks to be the better card IMO.

GTX 960 gets SMOKED by the R9 280X

GTX 960 only has 2gb of 128bit memory on it VS 3gb of 384 bit on the R9 280X

GTX 780 3gb 256bit ( $280-330 card) is very slightly faster than the R9 280X

EVGA GTX 970 SSC is ($329) $309 after $20 rebate card it beats the R9 280X but not by much.

Here take a peek R9 280X VS GTX 960 Real world Gaming performance comparison.

I Just bought a New R9 280X for $177.65 yesterday.Got it off of Ebay lol.

Here's the one I got just hope it lasts a while. eBay item number: 161731174228

Hope my 850 watt Thermaltake POS power supply can handle it.If not I do have a dedicated 450 watt Juice Box that I can throw in one of the 5.25 bays.

Nvidia and AMD both have their advantages and disadvantages and cards within the same price bracket have almost equal footing and either or giving way to certain programs or higher and lower fps in games, AMD  is usually killer in multi process involving gpu because of their usually high bit rate being around 512 bit + compared to nvidias usual being 256 bit or 384 bit which is usually all you need for gaming.  It all depends on what you're going to do, there are a lot more details that make a difference in combination but I don't feel like listing it all.

Just like AMDs HBM Fury X knocks the 980 out of the water in most everything, I know the GTX 980 beats the Fury X in some games but that's it, only games.

They used to be good. This is a 1st gen TR2 850 power supply that can't handle 2 old ATL Radeon hd 4870 cards even though it says it is SLI and Crossfire ready.Damn thing is supposed to have a single 12v 69 amp power rail but I'm thinking it's more like 30-35 amp Constant with a Peak of 69 amp.

Makes it very unstable with 2 cards and it will crash windows.

You could also get 2 lower cards and run them together to get equal or better performance than a single high end card.
