Well my mum and Dad both had it so i checked it out and i think we have to agree to disagree but no it's not, my mums parents lived long lives and neither had dementia, my Mum got it through having General Anaesthetic at the age of 80 having a breast removal, my mum was also the oldest of 9 children and none of her brothers or sisters have or had the disease either, my cousin is a Sister in a local hospital too and she also told me it is not Hereditary....even things like a bang on the head when you are younger can bring this on....as we see in our country now with ex professional footballers who are getting this disease because of heading heavy footballs all their careers. http://www.alzheimer-europe.org/Dementia/Alzheimer-s-disease/Is-Alzheimer-s-disease-hereditary https://www.alzheimers.org.uk/info/20010/risk_factors_and_prevention/117/genetics_of_dementia/8 Edited August 8, 2017 by Sonovabich JohnnyDos

Worked in the field for years as well, and have experienced many cases within my family. Allthough I think it isn't a safe fact for someone to get Alzheimer when his/her mom/dad suffered from it, there is Always a higher chance to develop overtime due to genetics. On top of that, lifestyle is suggested to have a big influence as well wether or not you develop Alzheimer. Think of smoking, drinking, overweight etc. On topic: Well, dementia it is for me then! Huntingdons disease is a bit different in that it targets young or younger people, 30 year old's can get it and yes i concede that is hereditary in most cases but as i said that is a bit different, but again i ask how many millions of people have Dementia in the world at this moment that is not inherited from parents...so how did they get it...did the wind blow in the wrong direction then lol. this Honorary Consultant Neurologist from the Institute of Neurology in London must not know what he is talking about then but XI members know better, i rest my case. I did not say that all dementia was hereditary, I said there is scientific evidence that SOME dementia can be hereditary. It's no different than having any other gene abnormality in your family, some people might get the gene mutation that predisposes them to some sort of disease but may never develop it while others will be stricken with the illness. The opinion of one Scientist or Doctor is not definitive proof of anything. To quote a good friend of mine, who is a Neurosurgeon, "It's called Practicing Medicine for a reason." https://www.alzheimers.org.uk/info/20010/risk_factors_and_prevention/117/genetics_of_dementia Edited August 9, 2017 by FUNky Icequeen
