I had to buy a vpn service today. Lately, if I sign into my chat on Steam and go in-game, I get hit by a ddos attack. When playing Team Fortress 2, my ping will go from 25 to 750. When I play cod4, my ping goes from 40 to 140. Not sure why someone is targeting me, but I did a quick search on youtube and apparently you can get someone's IP address through their Steam account. Does anyone else use a vpn? I have not had any issues today since I have been using it.

I found this video on youtube that shows how to get an IP on steam. If I was understanding it correctly it can only be done to someone who is on your friends list.

I am not sure it was you that was a target but maybe the server you were in was being ddos.

That is interesting because I have one guy on my friends list who I play TF2 with sometimes who has ddos'd people on our team who did not comply with what he asked them to do. He has anger management problems, but I havr done nothing to bother him.

Nah man that's BS its not completely true. It would be for only voice calls etc once there is exchange over mic going

You cant get peoples IP addresses from just typing to each other on steam

I have used paid VPN in the past I would highly recommend it for consistent download speeds. I wouldn't trust free services due to them basically collecting your data and altering speeds

For example if you decided to start downloading torrents on a free VPN and were caught. The free VPN company will forward on your details to the music/movie company without hesitation

There are quite a few that give you free service.  Some just limit the bandwidth amount. I did pay for IpVanish but I was getting pissed because of the exchange in monies because they charge in US funds. The exchange rate is bullshit.

As I was searching for a new VPN I came across Windscribe and it offered 12gb of free bandwidth so I thought I would give it a try. I used the 12 gigs in a couple of weeks. Then I got an email they added more. I was like oooooooooooookkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk. They keep adding and adding. Now if a day comes and they say I have to pay then I trust them enough to pay wellll unless it is in US funds then I will just tell them to go fuck themselves. lol

LOL You think your paid service is not collecting your data or not going to give up your info?? Paid or not the company is going to forward your details without hesitation. lol  Your ISP also will give you up in a New York minute as they all agreed and signed contracts if any illegal downloading is done and they are asked for names, they have to produce all the info.

Paid or free the speed changes per the location (country) you choose before you download anything. I download using France it takes 15 minutes longer than if I choose somewhere in the US.

It does not matter where you are in this world EVERYTHING you do on the internet is being watched. LOL The US gov't doesn't just spy on their own people they fucking spy on the entire world LOL Microsoft makes it possible also with w10 haha

*Just a thought* I would love to have just 1 Canadian Prime Minister grow a set of balls and tell the US President to go fuck himself lol So far all we have had is pussies lol

You post a link with a video about IP leaking about one of the worlds biggest platforms and just say " I just watched the dude do what he did in the video."

Then again if a service is offering a free and premium service....then why are you taking the free and thinking that you are safe is beyond me.  They need to make money at the end of the day from the fee users

It doesn't matter how big the platform is,  nothing is 100% secure. Assholes always find a way to cause problems.

When you watch the dude in the video proving how he does it, it is self explanatory.  You called BS on it so I said what I said. I posted the video in answer to a question by Randall.

I took the free VPN because I hate paying in US funds. The exchange rate is bullshit. Plus credit cards also add on their own bullshit charge for paying in US funds. It's like a double whammy.

Paying for a VPN and getting free are the same IMO. Nothing is 100% safe.

I use a VPN because I choose to.

Sorry if I seemed to come across harsh towards you, only realising now looking back

I didn't know that Canadians had to deal with dollar exchange at all

I did research windscribe and turns out they track zero traffic as well with IPVanish @Sonovabich : https://torrentfreak.com/vpn-services-anonymous-review-2017-170304/

That's a good link too if people are interested in VPN's all answers from each company is answered
