Til lthey get that working PC's are here to take up the slack. Maybe a twenty year thing ?? Plus there's the reliability issue balck berry in CA was down for a day last week. Who's resonsible for all the lost time and productivity ? There's lots of issuesstill to solve. Do I get to shoot the idiot no bad word there the fool who accedently delet'es all my family's pics because he did a crapy server update? ANd then there's the one that pisses me off. Anyone not living in a city only has dial up for band width because the powers to be say there's no money in getting them online. So on line is not going to work well for them. As for cloud computing it will never really take off for the public, it's a great business concept but for the public it means your ISP will have to offer even more bandwith, which as of now they are not willing to do. For a Company it makes perfect sense you do not need to have the programs running on every machine, just the sever and each machine can access that program and you can have tons of virtual drives for storage. As per wikipedia- Cloud computing is the delivery of computing as a service rather than a product, whereby shared resources, software and information are provided to computers and other devices as a utility (like the electricity grid) over a network (typically the Internet). Of course the ISP does not support it, because they do not know how to bill it yet. When they can send you a bill for using it (like electricity) they will sell you all your willing to pay for. Tablets & phones are about impossible to upgrade, replace compnents, or customize. Men seem to work on their computers nowadays, like they used to work on their cars. I don't think PC's as we know them now will last forever, but there are still several good years left, and software companies are morons if they ignore the market. There is much less customer support work for software makers to do with consoles - which is why they push consoles to start with. Lazy fekkers. When they invent an IPad or tablet or console that you can put your own video & sound cards, monitors, and chipsets in.... maybe it will be time to worry. But I think that is a few years away (if ever). Consoles & tablets can't do 1/4 of what PC's can. I'm not too worried about that anytime soon. Too many applications in use today need more power capability (graphic/processor, etc) than a tablet can provide. Like I want to game or design in CAD on a 8 or 10" screen. And don't get me started on the cost. Tablets right now are a toy for $600/$700 bucks. One can put a nice PC together for under that.
