Ask anyone who has tried to back up a trailer. you simply cannot control the trailer that well in reverse. I've backed large trailers my entire life and if you keep the wheels straight the trailer doesn't move. My RV trailer is 33 feet long and I can back it up in a straight line all day. These guys were working with a long and very smooth surface (probably an airport runway) and I don't see anything that is impossible.
