They said on the news tonight that the last radar contact showed the plane making a turn, then it vanished from radar and either the plane crashed at that point or somebody manually turned off the transponder and it continued on for who knows how long. If it crashed when making the turn, there would be some kind of debris field on the water. Since there isn't that only leaves us with the transponder being turned off manually and the jet dropping below the radar. It had enough fuel to travel at least 3,500 miles which could reach India, North Korea or any country in the middle east.  But getting there at low altitude without somebody seeing it seems unlikely.

We may never know for sure.

Transponder manually turned off or out of order nobody knows...

The plane had enough fuel to travel about 6 hours or 3500 miles at the altitude he was the last time spotted  (FL 300 or 30000 ft ) that's correct but if he was flying low altitude the range would drop to approx 1500 miles ( more fuel consumption ).That's still a big area to search and if the plane made a turn once he could have made another one later..or severals...because it was hijacked or because he lost his maneuverability for some reasons..again nobody knows

It will probably take some time before they find where is the plane but they will find it at least some parts of it . To figure out the reasons of the crash will probably take a lot longer.

Talking about what happened to the airline i work for and the flight AF447 we lost in 2009 between Rio and Paris the plane automatically sent 24 malfunction messages ( ACARS ) to the maintenance during his 4 minutes descent. The last one just minutes before the plane crashed into the sea was giving his position but it took 6 days to find some parts of the plane and 23 months to find the flight recorders !

The only big aircraft which disappeared and was never found was a Varig B707 flying from Tokyo to Rio whith 6 crews on board ( i thik it was a cargo flight but not sure ) it was in 1979.

I live in NJ...we all know where Jimmy Hoffa is....we just don't care...lol...

On the other hand its awful about the missing plane and it boggles the mind that we cant find it in this day and age...

Hostages are worthless unless you make demands. No demands thus far. So that is getting more and more unlikely.

Im going start a rumor and see how far it spreads... I think it isnt missing, i think someone was paid to see if they can breach securities and hide a plane full of people and all the countries leaders can buy in on playing war games and sending out resource to see which country can find it first.. The games presidents/Prime Ministers/Kings can play

Sounds like a good movie to me ;)

They turned off the transponder, B4 they lost radar contact...that broadcasts who/what/where for tower control...thats dumb, or.....?

Also we need to know that the various tech used in some countries isn't up to snuff...Yet anyways.

With each passing day that this search goes on without finding any debris from the fight, it is incredibly reasonable to at least entertain supernatural possibilities in the quest for answers. At some point, if no debris ever appears, we must expand our window of possibilities to include what military strategists refer to as "unknown unknowns.   WHOOOO  SPOOKS

This kind of stuff has happened before, in fact many time without a trace.  the top 10 are at this link...

It's in the water, or, it's on the ground in North Korea.

New thing they found out from the engine makers, Rolls Royce is that the engines were running for 4 hrs after they lost radio/radar contact.

BTW you can't "hack" an airliner and take control of it. It simply isn't possible.

Yea only one newspaper printed that without checking their sources. Both RR and Boeing say that isnt true.

I heard that as well. This increases the theory that the plane has been hijacked and hiding on land somewhere..

Not sure if its true or not. Funny how media reports things they havent confirmed lol.. Anyways the story behind this that i heard today is that the engines continue to transmit engine reports to the ground for maintenance reasons.. Seems unlikely to me though really. If that were the case then there would have to be some kind of IP or some way of locating the frequency of this supposed transmission..

Soon as one media source says something as a 'scoop' all the others search out people that will tell them what they want to hear. But none of these so-called sources are connected with the investigation. Both companies have told investigators that there were no such data transmissions.

There are so many satellites and cameras out there that they could tell every poster on this topic where they lost their wallet or wristwatch.

But they aint tellin where that plane went.

Here is a news clip i came across. Kind of interesting. Its only about 4 minutes but it explains all the systems on this air craft that "should" have been transmitting.

This is really interesting. A local company (first link) in my city has provided a map of the search area (second link) for this missing plane and anyone can scroll around and zoom in and look for anything that is out of the ordinary and actually mark the map. Not sure what they are doing with these markings but kind of neat technology. Some people are being idiots and wasting everyones time by mark clouds but some people will take it sincerely im sure.. Check it out..

The Associated Press just stated that the official position now is that the jet was hijacked.  There are too many variables that are simply impossible in the event of a catastrophe. They now know that the transponder was turned off 12 minutes before the planes message system quit transmitting, which is impossible in the event of a crash. They're also now saying that it appears the jet was flown in a way to avoid military and civilian radar, something only a skilled pilot that knew the area could do.

So either the passengers and crew are on the ground someplace for some as of yet unknown reason and being held against their will, or one of the pilots decided to commit suicide and wanted to take everybody on the jet with him.  It's going to be interesting to see what happens over the next few days.

If they ever do figure out what happened, count on it meaning more restrictions on passengers and better background checks on crews.

Lots of conjecture by the media. Remember that first they said RR was getting engine data. Turned out that was not true. Even when the company said there was no data the media still rolled with it. Later of course they had to revise their article. There is no official position until an official comes out and says its officially official.
