I'm looking at a new non-touchscreen  laptop...My concern is the direction of the newer OS's is touchscreen...Would I be seriously handicapping myself by getting a non-touchscreen?...Any thoughts on this would be appreciated...BTW this is a gaming laptop but will be used for general purposes also...

I have a touchscreen laptop. It was my first one. I got the Lenovo Y50. You can disable touchscreen. I would prefer touchscreen just because the screen is easier to view in sunlight. It is not a matte screen but rather resembles the screen on a phone. I keep my touchscreen enabled and some games support it. I have even caught myself being lazy when browsing the web and just tapping a link rather than clicking on it. My recommendation is get the touch screen for the fact that the screen is brighter and more vibrant. Try one out in store and just browse the web for a while.

well... if you like windows, they have a fascination with touch screens... Windows 8's "metro" theme was designed for their table PCs.

Touch screens are more expensive and often don't look as good. Unless you have a specific need for one, no point in getting it.

I wouldn't say your are limiting yourself as Windows 10 is being designed for both touch and non-touch screens. If you have the opportunity to get touch though, I don't see why you wouldn't as it adds a convenience factor that's moving with trends in the industry. I opted to save $300 by getting the non-touch screen version of my laptop and I'm regretting it...not because I'm losing functionality, just simply because sometimes I'm too lazy to move my mouse across the screen and would rather just tap the screen or swipe...lol

Dude. I would search for an older laptop with windows 7. Something around the i7 2nd gen series. This way it will cost less and you will get more out of it.  Most new lappys are just built to be cloud machines. Then when you are ready for Windows 10, Just buy a copy and install when ready.

That is true... many newer laptops are getting lower and lower power.

Just because of the OS and Windows 10 is much better that 8.... but I would like the touch screen option on a laptop. At times it makes it easy to just touch the screen. And the screen seems to be higher quality glass rather plastic for finger print reasons. They feel like touching a cell phone of these days.

Just my opinion.. as for Gaming... not needed.. or would it?

I'm not big on the touch screen.  While working on a friends touchscreen laptop, I found myself still using the keyboard and mouse simply for comfort.  Don't get me wrong, the novelty is quite nice but use of the touchscreen requires you to outstretch your arm and with use, found tiring.  And it is more expensive.  Really have to base it on your needs which I don't need.

But that's just me...

Everybody knows that the whole reason for touch screens is so that the government can access your fingerprint...connect it with your laptop and  then know where you are and what kind of porn you are watching....

In my opinion a touchscreen OS is the one that runs on a device which you control by touching, you're welcome!

if you want a bag for it you are going to have to get a backpack. I had an ROG laptop and they are nice but even though the screen is 17" the size of the laptop is equivalent of a 18.4" laptop.
