I still haven't received notification on my main PC. It's reserved to. Both my laptops are upgrades and loving 10. Wish notification would push to my main PC...waiting.

I was waiting and waiting, too.  What I did was right-click on the Win10 notification icon, then clicked Go to Windows Update.  I had a failed update - which I also saw on my laptop, too.  Not sure what is up with that.  But anyway, I went to the Action Center (flag icon in the notification area) and under repair options, I chose to Fix problems with Windows Update.  It found and fixed the problem, and the pending updates went through.  Once I had a clean indication that all updates had been applied without error, I did another Check for Updates.  And there it was - a big old message sitting there saying Upgrade to Windows 10.  This may not work for you, so please don't get discouraged if it doesn't.  It has worked for as many people as it hasn't in my experience.  For those who it hasn't worked, I guess the wait continues, or you have to go find the Microsoft site where you can download the upgrade.

so I was just reading since I have win7 ultimate .If I upgrade to win 10 I will only get win10 pro because there is no ultimate. so that would be a downgrade . So I guess my question is Is there a big difference between win 10 pro and win 7 ultimate?

It's not a downgrade.  Win 10 Pro is the highest level you can get (enterprise licensing aside, but I don't think there's anything all that special in the enterprise licenses; they're just Pro licenses sold in packs.)

So I started updating with the only option it would let me. Which was update and keep no files. It said I could only do that because my drive may not be compatible with the installation. So I figured fine keep nothing. It was updating fine until BAM a9b3ca15e09c84455b57732621fbd374.jpg

So now I'm wiping my drive clean and reinstalling 8.1 again and then trying 10 all over again.

Pisses me off cause my 2 laptops I rarely use updated without issue. I try my main PC and I get kicked in the nuts lol

So here is a rundown of my Windows 10 installation: Your windows 10 UPGRADE is ready for download, okay download. Windows 10 UPGRADE is ready to install, okay install. Windows had a BAD_POOL_HEADER. I troubleshoot and ultimately get it running. Everything looks good, same background, mail, BF4, TS work. Me: Shut down. Windows 10: Fuck you! and application (not to be named) is having trouble shutting down. I will go to sleep for a sec, and then I am up and running again! Me: Shut down you POS!  Windows 10: Fuck you! an application (not to be named) is having trouble shutting down. I will go to sleep for a sec, and then I am up and running again! Me: hard power off! Windows 10: Fuck you asshole BAD_POOL_HEADER! Me: Try to boot in multiple ways but ultimately revert back to Windows 7 Home Premium. Windows 7: I'm pissed that you tried to get rid of me so I am putting tiny locks on all of your fucking icons, don't worry, you can still access them all, but unless you share your folders you have to live with these shitty looking locks on everything.

I decided to do a full clean installation of Windows 10 *I highly recommend this*

First: Download the Windows 10 media creation tool.

Second: Run it on a thumb drive (minimum 4 Gig).

Third: Reboot, to the USB and follow the instructions.

Detailed instruction can be found here: How to perform a clean installation of Windows

This installation was flawless and I really like Windows 10 so far!

I hope this help someone!

OK, question here that hopefully someone can answer.   I am looking to go to Win 10, but be fore I do, I need to decide on clean or upgrade.  I have 120 GB SSD for my primary system file, but some other programs that do not give you a choice of the installation path are also on the same drive.  That dive only has 22 GB free, which concerns, me so I might want to get a bigger SSD for my system.  Anyway, there is a sub folder in the Windows folder called "winsxs" which is where Windows keep a bunch of file every time that you do a Windows update.  From what I know, you cannot delete any files from that folder, so it continues to grow over time and the only way to reduce the size of it is to do a new install.

Does anyone know if the winsxs folder is needed with Win10, and if someone has upgraded and has a winsxss folder, can you post here how many GB yours is?

Pigdog when you upgrade to Win10 you can basically get rid of your windows.old which it creates from doing the upgrade.  Here is a link that shows you how to do it http://www.intowindows.com/how-to-delete-windows-old-folder-in-windows-10/ .  Now as for the size of the winsxs folder after installing windows 10 it is about 7gbs from the upgrade.  Removing the windows.old saved me a total of 45gbs though.  The windows.old is only used if you plan on reverting back to win7/8 or 8.1 which I do not plan on doing.

Mine is 6.95GB after a successful upgrade to Win10.

To shrink the size of yours, open cleanmgr and click the "Clean up system files" button.  It won't eliminate the winsxs folder, but it should clean out the cobwebs a bit.

Updated flawlessly. It took a while, but not as long as the backup did. !0 looks pretty good, I would go as far as to say, I don't dislike it and don't really worry about upgrading the main PC.
