My shop building is about 350' from the house...I want to be able to use my laptop there but run out of signal at about 300'...I have been reading about wifi extenders and how they can reach any room in a house but haven't read anywhere about them extending to outside structures...will an extender work for what I want and if so what would be a good one to get?

At one point in my system I had a weak signal through my house. I use Asus routers with wifi. They made a extender that I added to my system and it worked great. Not sure what the range was but it could have been placed quite a ways from the router with a extension cable. Check the manufacturer of the router you are losing and see if they make one for it. Mine hardwired to it

Do you run a subpanel off the main house Bart or are you direct to the pole?

Why I ask if a sub panel then you can get these and run your network over the power lines.

I use the powerlink extender . I have a cabin in garden with the electric connected to main fuse board , I plugged one into wall socket and connected it to router then I put one in the loft and one with wifi in the cabin . I now have wireless Internet right down to bottom of my garden running at 50mb .

The loft room one is not wifi but has a wired connection . This I just use for my work pc as the house wifi works there already .

I wish I had fitted them sooner they are great

Yeah I have some of those... not using them. If the shop power is connected to your house power you should be able to run internet out to your shop. If your interested I will find them and send you some pictures, make and model. PM me.

Problem with an extender is you need to install it at a midpoint from the where the original signal is, to the the point where u need it. Like rugged mentioned. Is it cable?

The power to the shop has it's own meter/power line from the pole...

Do you have cable internet? Do you have cable out in your shop?

No cable, My internet is fiber optic direct to the house...I get it from the local phone company and it would be costly to have it run to the shop...
