I'm having an issue with sound in COD4. I cannot hear people talk on mic. I can hear the game sounds and people can hear me, but I can't hear them. The only thing I can attribute this to is maybe my iw3mp file issues.

I was having problems with the game crashing and seeing a message that my iw3mp.exe caused the crash. Someone recommended that I find the file on the original game DVD and swap out the files. Upon doing that, I could not log back into the game because it would say that I didn't have version 1.7 update.

I shut everything down and put the old iw3mp file back in place. I was able to get back in the game but soon after I noticed that I could not hear anyone's voice.

I am running Windows 10 and using a Logitech G35 USB headset.

Can anyone offer some assistance?

Thanks in advance

I know there is an in-game setting that many people use to turn off/on the in-game chat. @@iboomboom showed me the command. Dont know what it is. Its a keybind for me.

Boom, any thoughts.

Yes, it's on. Very strange issue as I can hear everything except player voices. They can hear me so it becomes difficult to find a solution.

Update: So it appears that the issue extends to COD5 as well. I haven't tried COD2 yet. I'm going to have to investigate hardware when I have more time.

Yeah...COD sucks that way...come on over to the grown up servers....BF4!!

Oh and what everyone else said...check your playback settings by right clicking on the speaker icon next to the clock in your lower task bar, click on playback stuff and play a music video or anything and watch for the graphs to move, make the one that moves your default and communications.

Yes make sure you check this, because everything was fine just a couple days ago, unless you changed something major since ?

I had this same issue one time, and it was related to the jack the headphones were plugged in to. Try switching to another USB and see if that fixes it.

do you have a 3.5mm headphone jack? if so try plugging a old head set in but make sure you have it set for the headset that you use.

and we will fix your wagon at xi fest if you are going!

Maybe they all have you muted and dont want to hear you. In which case your sol.

But yea to go the console in-game and make sure cl_voice is at 1. Also, back up your main player profile to generate a new one. To restore default settings.

Hey bud if you cant get it resolved let me know...I can try to help

Few things I would suggest is set your sound to use only realtek and set to speakers not headset

57c0b1368b454_crowesound.jpg

You can also check your config file in your players folder by opening with "wordpad"

Scroll to bottom and check settings change if need be and save before closing....

It is always a good idea to create a back up copy of it as well before making change

This is what mine is set at

seta voice_deadChat "0"
seta voice_global "0"
seta voice_localEcho "0"
seta winvoice_mic_mute "1"
seta winvoice_mic_reclevel "65535"
seta winvoice_mic_scaler "1"
seta winvoice_save_voice "0"

Hope that helps

I suppose there seems to be some miscommunication. The sound works? For sound effects and music and such? But you cannot hear anybody talking while playing? If so, that suggests a config problem. For cod4 there are no separate effects/voice channels sent to windows. Everything is mixed by the game. Did you try moving your main player profile out of the cod4 folder to make a new one with all default settings to see what happens? Do the same for the profile specific to the mod.

Yeah he can hear game sounds but just not people. I would say create a new profile and go play with everything default.

Not related to the issue you are having but if you primarily use headphones I would get a basic headphone amp sound card. Inexpensive and much better sound than realtek.

It's also happening in COD 5 and I've yet to try COD 2.
