COD5 Server 1- Passworded

I'm sure the answer is here in the forums some where but I can't find it.

What's the deal with the >XI< DM Custom Maps 1 server being passworded?

Is it just for >XI< members?

Is it just for special matches?

   DM1 is considered a backup server (it runs identical map rotations as DM2) for use in the event a world-class player comes into DM2 and folks don't want that level of competition. It is passworded to prevent that undesirable player from following the crowd, so to speak, if it moves to DM1.

   Otherwise, any member or guest who regularly plays in DM2 may play in DM1 as they please. The password is: runaway

Excuse me from stating the obvious, but two points :-

1/. As the password is freely given, to anyone asking, what is to stop the world class player following to this server ?

2/. Who kicks them if they do ??

 

Any of you work in security lol ??

This is an invite only server, if you are not invited then you will be banned. Admins will place bans when needed.

Small correction. Because it is passworded admins are allowed with no real reason to kick any player deemed annoying out of the server. They can do that because a passworded server is deemed private. So not open to the public but open to everybody that want to play with the rules of that server.. Yes I know we hand out the password to everybody. It is so those players that ruin the experience who want to play with those in that server know they have to tone it down. If they do not wham bang your gone. In the DM2 server you need a lot more reasons to do that. I thought all the admins knew the reason for that. Something like that.

Ok boss, but if everyone is given the password then everyone is invited per se ?? but if no one has invited anyone and people then turn up what happens and who manages it ?? 

Labob answered as I posted, but I'm still confused how this works in practice, do you need to use the shoutbox to get them kicked ? All a bit academic anyway as never seen anyone on it lately to play with ?

Its not given out to everyone, it was given out to all members, in the member post I made. They know who not to invite to the private server.

Well not an hour ago a non member was given it in the forum, one of many incidentally, and it has been posted more than once on the shoutbox? read second post here

I just realized that, lol

Its still an invite only server, the person asking for it was given the password, not everyone.

If I get the message correctly only a member can invite (or have kicked) the disruptive player, that right ??

Everyone can read it yes, no everyone can't come in

For casual or new players looking around for a populated server, if they see it is passworded, then they would have to search for the clan website on the off chance that it is publicly posted. Which it isnt, except by chance on the chat box. Or that someone here would give it. Which also is not a given. Logically, if you see a password its because a server doesnt want unknown players.

 

Obviously some try anyway and succeed instead of moving on to another populated server, of which there are several here.  Could be that they think passworded servers are better controlled to keep out cheaters and otherwise unruly players for a better experience. Which is true. Or they are one of said players that specifically do want to get in to screw around and get pleasure from it. If banned they dont care and say 'next'.

Thanks for answering my question guys.  I think I got it. 

The >XI< DM Custom Maps 1 server is for non world class players (like me LOL), and you need to be invited and be given the password to get in but anyone can read the password here in the forums.  XI admins know who should be in there and who shouldn't.  If you come in you may be kicked or permanently banned for being a hacker or a jerk.  Right?

Some are making this harder than it is, to wit...

DM2 is an open server. Anyone can play on it regardless of skill level provided you follow our primary rules of no racism and no personal attacks.

DM1 is a passworded server. We realize that over time everyone will have the password but that's OK because it serves only to allow us to determine who plays there. For instance if you come in and repeatedly clean house and our members and other guests complain about you, we'll ask you to leave and play on DM2. If you don't, you will be banned from all XI servers.

So I just stopped in Server 1 and then went back to Server 2 and it erased all my weapons class names.  I think I'll stay in Server 2.

It didn't actually erase them, it downloaded the copy of the DM1 mod because you didn't have one with the same name on your computer.  Hence, it's a fresh start.  As you've already seen, your DM2 classes are all a-okay, and you can go back to them at any time.

Actually, with the possible exception of ranking up a shotgun, going through all the challenges again is kinda fun.

Another thought on starting over in DM1 with no classes ---

If you're careful you can finesse the files and get your DM2 classes into your new DM1 mod.  BE CAREFUL.  That's a good way to completely F things up if you have no idea what you're doing.
