  1. Hi all,

There is a major website upgrade that needs to be applied. This is expected to cause issues with themes and plugins as the core functionality is changing.

There should be no significant user impacting changes in terms of usability. Some features may disappear though.

I will look to prepare for the upgrade over the next couple/few days and then implement. I would expect there to be significant disruption over the course of a day when the changes are applied.

Will update this thread before the change.

There may be outages to Teamspeak, the portal, the redirect and some game servers due to restarts that may occur during the change period.

This is the first I'm seeing that the downloader went away. What was the reason for that?

I like the looks of the new portal, but having to download 4 files individuals per map for the hundreds of maps we have seems like a nightmare.

Because very few used it, there were multiple security issues, it was high maintenance and simply not viable for it to continue.

How long do you have to be off the forums to be considered inactive?

it used to be 3 months i think now its longer

Registered users and members are moved into an inactive group after 30 days of not visiting the site.

They are automatically moved back in to their respective groups upon visiting the site.

This is purely a group management thing and to allow us to gauge the active users/members. Being marked as 'inactive' does not remove membership.

But if its a rule to get rid of freedom of speach then go for it and i will hand in my tags no problem

No it is not a rule to get rid of freedom of speech neither is there a rule that you will have it. In fact there are very few 'rules' as to what can be posted on these forums. However we have always reserved the right to remove objectional content and that is clear in the terms that you agreed to.

For you to compare this with the abhorrent treatment to people of the Jewish faith in WW2 shows the warped mindset that you have.

If you wish to hand in your tags over this or at the point 20 likes are achieved then I will get the process started.

Thank you so much for your input guys! We'll dig into all of that and I'm sure we'll be able to make it work now :D?

@Sitting-Duc That's awesome, exactly what I need ! Thank you so much for going the trouble to create this example website ! I'll show it to my colleagues here and we will most likely go in that direction :D

No worries - I quite like the concept may try and make something of it.

The code is here: https://github.com/frasermolyneux/FM.TreasureHunt and contains some terraform to deploy to an Azure app service. I was going to use Azure storage but ran out of time so used the generic SQL database for the back-end in the end.

The majority of the 'proof of concept' is in here: https://github.com/frasermolyneux/FM.TreasureHunt/blob/master/src/FM.TreasureHunt.Web/Controllers/TreasureHuntController.cs

  6. As has been suggested - a simple QR code on the poster (probably with a 'friendly code') for those without QR capability. Then a simple website to manage the 'treasure' and record finds. I would keep the concept simple. I have created a quick example to give some ideas... plus I kind of like the concept in general. Haven't looked to see if there is already an existing service that provides what you want.

    See example: https://fm-treasurehunt-webapp-mikzzona.azurewebsites.net/

    Links to treasure:

If the user isn't already logged in they are taken to the login page (or they can register). If they are already logged in then they are taken directly to the register page.

Centralised model does allow easier tracking and minimal manual intervention etc.

    hey Duck,

today while on website a few times when moving back in forth around the website got this. message.

    Screenshot_2020-08-17 www xtremeidiots com 502 Bad gateway.png

The 502's happen occasionally, I believe there is a memory leak (of sorts) somewhere in one of the background tasks that gets run on the website. I delete the servers and recreate them from time to time (haven't done it in 75 days). Will do that and see if it improves.

Is the server or section of server allocated for our website getting overloaded with traffic?  Reason I ask is:   A sizeable aggregate portion of our visitors' time is spent on our website;  be it members, registered users or non-registered, I would think.  Especially with the new features of quizzes, blackjack, poker... in addition to our regular traffic of posting.  The thing is, the website & it's pages seem slow, sluggish to resolve compared to the past & returns a larger number of errors.  Is this something that could be addressed?  That would make many people at least nominally happier, I think.  Especially with this Covid thing, people are more reliant on interwebs for socialization satiation these days.

Traffic is at an all time low at present there has been a significant drop in traffic coinciding with Covid-19 (initial spike followed by a flattening curve downward).

The servers and configuration of other infrastructure components are over provisioned at present and could do with being cut back at some point.

The new features do seem to cause a larger amount of errors but they are application not infrastructure errors. I am not seeing 'a large number of errors' in any monitoring or analytics.

I have seen a nominal increase in load times since 29th July which could be put down to needing to rebuild the nodes as mentioned above.
