More bandwith isn't going to improve your cod ping. It takes a very small stream to play most fps games. There are alot of factors that go into it but once you have the bandwidth you need for the game anything above that really doesn't matter unless you have someone beating up the connection your on doing other things. I upgraded to a V21 modem that could manage 300bps both ways but required a telephone to dial the online service. So, anything is good, these days... I'm sure the UK isn't the only country in the world with contention ratios, also. As has been said above, a very high connection speed is unnecessary to play games.
