Okay, help me out here, I just got a new smart phone, the HTC Thunderbolt from Verizon. It comes already pre-loaded with lots of apps from which I have selected quite a few for my "desktops".

But I was wondering what are some of the apps available for download that are worthwhile, either free or if a cost what's the cost?

I have downloaded Pandora using the pre-loaded "Market" app:

https://market.android.com/details?id=com.pandora.android&feature=top-free

I also downloaded Advanced Task Killer although I am not sure of it's merits. CNET liked it:

http://download.cnet.com/Advanced-Task-Killer-Free-for-Android/3000-18512_4-75011529.html

But what other apps or tools are worth checking out from the internet?

Have to say the damn phone is a whole lot smarter than me.

Does the extended battery alter the case dimensions? If it does my holster will be useless. On flip phones I had the extended battery that also had a modified battery cover altering the case size. Did not much matter with them because I just stuffed it in my pocket.

Dunno if they are available for the HTC as I have an I- phone, but I personally love Shazaam for i.d.ing music, theres one called gasbuddy for finding the cheapest gas,the gibson guitar app which is a tuner, metronome, chordd library etc. and the handy level app. They were all free except shazam..I think it was 4 or 5 bucks.

Well, I can certainly say the T-Bolt battery life sucks.

Have not timed it but it is much, much shorter than what I am used to.

I am assuming you have an android phone

if you need to track a vehicle expenses or gas consumption or matinenace reminders then acar is by far the best.

Convertpad is probaly the best conversion application for converting anythgin such as distance, area, volume , land area etc,

If you need to have notes and stuff on the go then evernote is the best you can have a pc client as well and they will sync.  You can add pictures, text notes, documents anything

If you ship or recieve alot of packages then packag.e buddy is a very good app.. will let you know where your package is..

Printershare is a very good app.. it has a pc client so that you can print documents on your printer through your pc at home.  You can print anywhere the job goes back through the internet to you rprinter or through your wirless at home.

Realcalc is a good free scientific calculator

shadyface is a nice app.. when you run it it will record any voice.  YOu can set your phone down in a meetingf or what ever and record the meeting

scan2pdf is a very good app.  You can take a pic of a document or whatever and then it converts to pdf. so you can email or wahtever.  Suprising it is very good at documents.. can take a page out of a book and its very readable.. in fact it really amazed me.

Photoexpress is a good pictured editor .. very advanced in capabilities.

Documentws to go is the best ms office app.. its costly though at $14.99 but in my bvusiness i needed to be able to edit and produce word, excell etc documents

GPS status is one of the best gps apps   I use it alot in my work.

ESfile explorer is  agood app, you can map to your home network drives and copy files back and forth..

ebuddy is the better chat ive found so far.. does facebook, msn, and yahoo, etc

Those are some of my better ones.

My HTC desire hd does not have great life.. if im using wifi or bluetooth its about 10 hours.. But i did go on ebay and get a wallcharger and 2 batteries for 11.99 so its not big deal.. i also got a cradle for 10.99 that the phoe sits upright in and will charge the phone and an extra battery as well.  HTC reeleased alot fo their phones in asia long before here in North America.. so ther are few accesories for them here but plenty coming out of china

For the Ipod and Iphone "Scany" is a really nice app for mobile Wi-fi scanning. You can scan for other devices and computers connected, port scan with a LOT of options. and scan custom IP's.

I have a droid x, and find the Facebook app handy, and also I use Jango radio better than Pandora. In Jango you can skip as many songs as you want if it ever plays one you don't like. And there is no monthly bandwidth limit like on Pandora. And it's still absolutely free. I also haven't ever had a buffering problem with it like I do on the Pandora app.

Also WifiAnalyzer is handy, you can use it to search for the strongest channel for any wifi signal. And several other features too.

I don't bother with an antivirus, just am selective of what apps I download, plus Verizon promised they would replace my phone if I ever got a virus they couldn't fix anyway.

also just some "party apps" just for kicks, are Lighter Free, which is a Zippo you can customize, and there is a Beer app, it fills the mug, and when you tilt the phone like taking a drink, it pours like taking a drink, and I think it even provides the belch afterwards, can't remember that parts for sure now.

I also use a Verizon Thunderbolt. Love the phone and charge it every other day on the standard battery. I use Task Killer to shut down everything except Bluetooth which syncs with my car for hands-free calls. I turn on mobile network when I want to check online stuff then shut it off - do that once in the morning and perhaps once in the afternoon and the batter does well. Favorite app: Google Sky Map.
