Sunday evening was playing on server and things were working fine then my puter just shut down in the middle of a game...The fans stopped and my video also...The strange thing is there was still power to my power button...over the next hour this happend two more times then I shut down for the night...Monday when I turned on the puter it barely got everything loaded when it did it again twice in a row...My first thought was power supply was going bad but I have power like I said to my power button so I'm not sure that is the problem...Has anyone ever experienced anything like this?...SmileSmile

A couple of quick thoughts. Check the processor fan to see if its rotating. Make sure the processor heat sink/fan hasn't moved any as well. If it is partially off center could cause what you described. Just because you have a power light doesn't mean the power supply is pushing the correct voltage. How old is the power supply?

Also check your GPU fan. I had a problem like this a while back and put on a new GPU fan and everything worked fine.

I have a had a few problems with my psu and are now on my third which eventually i got myself a good one . My experience with it was the power supply even though the power button came on nothing else would boot up so have your power supply tested Hopefully this will sort it out for you.

I this same topic you may want to look at my issues.............yet to be resolved Cry Some similarities I think.

But not as bad as it once was. It's titled Video Card because initially I thought that was the culprit. In my case my video card and power supply have been tested and appear to be okay.

Did that, had the people who built the PC take control of it remotely and roll back some stuff, more than I can remember but still had the problem.

I have narrowed it down to the psu...I'm trying to decide if I want to put more money in this one or just build a new one...I have put almost $400 in parts and upgrades over the years to get it to last this long (it's almost 7yrs old). Cod2 & 4 is the best I can play on it...Decisions, decisions...Makes my head hurt...Lol...Thanks to everyone that has responded...SmileSmile

I've had similar issues with excessive dust on motherboards, so once a year I take the covers off and blow it out with a blower or compressor. Has resolved it a couple times. My wife is a "clean-freak", but you'd be amazed how fast the fans pull dust in. Twice it has fixed what seemed like over-heating, though the fans were on. Just a something else to check. Good luck Bart!!

I know I am late on this...but have ran into similar issues over time...could even be the power bar. Me personally I have never bought a cheap one but if you have bought one, could be an issue. Have even seen this happen if people have rearranged a room and all of the sudden more things are plugged into that AC circuit that the puter is on.

If you go to the run command right above start. Type in there event viewer. This should come up.

event1

Second screen from the left in the Overview and Summary you wil see Critical error. Under error you should find all the error logs that happened to your computer. Now be smart and as soon as your computer takes a dump. WRITE the time down. Now you left click on an event to choose it then right click on a event and choose View events in this log.

you should see this.

event 2

You will see in my error log  Kernel-EventTracing      I Googled that and got all kinds of help. And it is easy but you DO NOT want to make any changes to your computer. I would just use this a reference to help diagnose the problem. If you think you need help ask someone. And if you do deice to make changes on your own I always copy the direction for the  fix in a txt file so they can be reversed if necessary. I hope this can help....

Damb this took a long time to post...

Thermal paste , its what s on your CPU between the CPU and its mating surface to the heatsink , which is the most important thing not to overlook also dust buildup on fan tips and heatsinks also dirty DIMM slots and do you smoke ? nicotine and tar buildup is a great combination when in contact with dust , you can always PM me and we can talk

about it to come to a solution as I am more than happy to assit you .

Another possibility is that one of your ram chips or DIMM slots is damaged , the way to check it is for multi

chips take one out and boot , then reinsert one and remove the other , also checking the DIMM slots as

you go along I had a notebook that would turn on then off and it was a bad sector on one of the RSM chips

please keep informed to your findings , any time you need help....David
