how about the The Sword of Shannara books by Terry Brooks, been awhile since i read them, thinking i might need to get them on my kindle.

was also looking for some free books on the kindle/amazon and found this fantasy book im reading now. 'The Book of Deacon' by Joseph R Lallo. its a trilogy. and it grabbed me right away, the next 2 books airnt free but only $2.99 each.

there are loads of free books at amazon for the kindle, mostly the 1st one of the series so they can get you to buy the rest. but that's ok, that way you can at least see if you would like the series or not.

The Incarnations of Immortality series from Piers Anthony was good, and his Xanth series (38 books) was good too.(just looked that up and i missed a load of them, and more coming...hum)

Richard Sharpe series by Bernard Cornwell'

Historical fiction during the Napoleonic wars. Easy reading and entertaining. Several books.

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_2_16?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=bernard+cornwell+sharpe+series&sprefix=bernard+cornwell%2Caps%2C232

On a more realistic vein the Six Silent Men series based on actual Long Range Patrols (LRP /  LRRP) in Nam. 3 books.

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_c_0_14?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=six+silent+men&sprefix=six+silent+men%2Caps%2C694&rh=n%3A283155%2Ck%3Asix+silent+men

And perhaps the very best book I have read on the Pacific war, With the Old Breed by E. B. Sledge.

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_2_18?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=with+the+old+breed+by+e.b.+sledge&sprefix=with+the+old+breed%2Cstripbooks%2C694&rh=n%3A283155%2Ck%3Awith+the+old+breed+by+e.b.+sledge

All very good reads in my opinion.

Fantasy/War? Hands down, Steven Erikson's (and Ian C. Esselmont's) "Malazan Book of the Fallen Series" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malazan_Book_of_the_Fallen. Long, meaty books, well written, and great characters and plots. To keep track of who's-who-in-the-zoo, there are a couple of encyclopedias/wikis online:

  • Malazan Empire – Major fansite, including a FAQ and a forum occasionally frequented by Erikson and his associates.
  • Encyclopaedia Malazica – Major wiki, frequented by Steven Erikson.

The Harry Dresden novels by Jim Butcher.  Read them in the order they were written.  Super good stuff.

if you are looking for a LONG series of short reads then i might suggest the 43 book In Death series but JD Robb. Great blend of Charecters... follows a futuristic homicide cop.

The Alex Cross series is another good read

I read almost all the Dragon Riders of Pern.  Love them!  A good series is Eragon by Christopher Paolini.  He started writing them at 15 and there are 4 books.  They are the best.

I second this - these books are awesome.  I am currently on book 9 in this series.  Book 8 was the only one that was a little bit off - the rest are all brilliant IMHO.  These are stories that have alternatively had me laughing out loud and crying out loud.  Really that good.

@@StormCrow I got into Goodkind's series but it jumped the shark around book 6 for me.  Never picked it back up.

Book 6-7 were somewhat tedious, i stuck with it though and still love the series, was shocked when he came out with a new book. He is doing a new series too, going back to the great war and the 1st mother confessor

I rarely read any fiction, these days, myself (other than that presented by the press as "news" of course!).

My latest, recent purchase, in the 150th anniversary year of the network is "Underground: How The Tube Shaped London".

5149f3f52d41b_UNDERGROUNDfrontcover_web.

I have been a huge fan of our capital's "metro" or "subway" train service since childhood,

when a ticket cost just twopence (in pre-decimal currency).  I also have some unread

biographies and travelogues to get through.

p.s. dont recommend dragonlance. couldnt even finish the 3rd chapter of the first book on that piece of shit series

please please help me with some ideas

Cross, try "The Dark Tower : The Gunslinger" by Stephen King... it is not what it sounds like.  You will LOVE it if you liked the LOTR and the wheel of time series.

here is a link. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Dark_Tower:_The_Gunslinger

There are 5 books, but the size of the ones in the wheel of time... well worth it.

Hey Shamu, i noticed you liked the Sharpe books, did you ever get the British TV series Sharpe over there, it was very good.

No, I did not see the series, I will keep an eye out for it.

I also liked the C. S. Forester series on Horatio Hornblower and have watched a set of 6 CD's

It is another series worthy of consideration. As I said I do like Historical Fiction.
