Howdy, did a clean install of Windows 7 professional 32bit. Installed all updates, including service pack 1. Installed IE10 & AVG as anti-virus protection. Very irritating, AVG constantly wanted to change my home page & default search engine to AVG safe search. Command window & inetcpl.cpl got me to IE preferences & set default search. Removed AVG safe search.

Why the F*%$ do I have to do this in the first place? Also had to disable Adobe Flash's crap to keep pop-up ads from opening on every browser tab. Dammit, what's the use of doing a clean install if you immediately have to clean up a load of bilge from third party installations. :realmad:

During AVG install you have to select custom install and opt out of all the crap.  Works Great!  I use firefox browser and add two add ons.  Adblock Plus with all the extra filters added and WOT or Web of Trust which warns you when you go to a bad page.  They both work great and I get easy and safe browsing.

Adblock Plus, and Adblock Plus Pop Up Addon in Firefox, I rarely see ads, between the 2 of those, they even cut out ad commercials if watching TV from network channels stream.

You will have to deselect the safe search during the installation. It's the same with many other free programs like Java (Ask.com search bar) etc...

Microsoft Security Essentials does NOT replace any antivirus program like. It's not Microsoft's business to find and remove viruses. There are companies with more know how in that. I know there was Windows OnLive, Defender and there is the MS Forefront Protection for servers. Blah

Un-installed AVG this afternoon. Removed safe-search toolbar. Giving Avast a try after 7-toes' recommendation. AVG hijacked my home page AGAIN after manually setting preferences with intercpl.cpl. Might try Avira if Avast doesn't cut it.

There is one big problem with this toolbars:
Uninstallting the program they came with does not  guarantee that the toolbars are uninstalled too.

Sometimes this is caused by registry entries or entries in your browser config. If you are using Fire Fox
type about:addons in your address bar and watch out if the toolbar is already installed in your browser and uninstall it.

If this doesn't help you can try to uninstall this crap on the about:config tab.
Don't know the correct entries in this settings. at the moment I'll search  and post them here if needed.

Just for fun:
type in about:robots
;)
