Hey gang,

I've been searching and searching to find out if there is ANY way possible to upgrade to 64bit Windows 7 without deleting all of my personal files. I understand that programs will have to be reinstalled which is no problem, but I have a 2TB HD that is about 3/4 of the way full. I don't have the disks to back everything up and there are a lot of irreplaceable files, photos, documents, school work and the like that I cannot afford to lose.

The reason for the upgrade is I have received copies of Adobe CS6 Master Collection and a year subscription to the Adobe Creative Cloud through my school and I would like to keep up to date with the latest software available. I currently use After Effects and Premiere Pro CS4, but the school is using the more current editions. But those editions only work on 64bit systems.

If anyone can help, I would greatly appreciate it!!!!

I recommend backing up all the important stuff anyways. An external USB drive would be the most convenient. A pain in the ass to look for it all as well as time consuming but just in case something goes wrong. Not sure about 32-64 upgrades but it might put your x32 windows folder and program files into an old folder for safe keeping.

You can't upgrade 32bit to 64 bit.  It won't work.  You can only to a clean install.

You have to back up all your stuff.

This is what I would do.  Get a second hard drive like a nice 128 or 240 SSD and install the new 64 bit operating system on it and then use the 2tb hard drive as an external or second drive.  You may even need to buy a second 2 tb hard drive to save everything over.  Total cost is about $200, but will be totally worth the investment for the storage space gained.

Forget it. Upgrade from 32 to 64bit won't work. But you can use the winows emdedded "Easy Transfer" to backup your data to a disk and copy it to the fresh installation
