Well, in my 50 plus years of Michigan winters, I can't recall one this brutal! Many weeks now with days of below 0F and snowing regularly, including an 18" snowfall a couple weeks ago. Been working in a Chrysler plant 67 miles away, so of course a few 2 hours plus treks one way to or from work (or both)! That sucks - Calgon take me away!! And 5-6 weeks yet of who knows what's to come before spring like temps. Arghhh!! -10F tonight upwards of -30 with wind chill added (or actually subtracted)! Furnace acting up too, since it runs non-stop - please don't fail us now furnace! I know many of you have the same or worse temp, Minnesota, Wisconsin and much of northeast!! Wow:

Here in California we're in the grips of a really nasty drought, so I'll probably be taking showers in a few weeks with a 10 oz bottled water to conserve what little we have left. But at least it was 72 F here today. :harhar:

Its going down to -4 here tonight (teeth chattering) And to think I moved here from Southern California Voluntarily!

Anything below 20 is just cold but when you start getting below 0 I bust out my sand chair make a cocktail with a little umbrella and sit next to the wood stove and work on my tan . . .Har

I don't mind the cold and snow, it's actually very cool except that winter just lasts too fuking long. by the end of February I am ready to start doing some serious fishing . . . .wait I have a nice camper, boat, no job .  . . what the hell I will just drive to spring somewhere down south . . . . .as soon as I can chip the Ice off the boat and camper!

I hate it when I cast a lure and it bounces off the Ice!

(Throwing a couple more logs on the FIRE)

Now I know what's wrong with you Canadians.....Brain Freeze!! LOL!

To move here from California, Lead?..............you must have been desperate for some strange reason!! Seriously though, I do like the change of seasons, but the winters are just TOOOO long! I do like to snowmobile and a little snow skiing (not near us in flat MIchigan - got to go north or west), but would rather be floating on a boat to fish, not cutting through ice!!

Lt . . . . I was desperate . . . .  . .to find clean air, find a place where no one is trying to take my money(taxes), a place where there are NO traffic jams, good people , and a river that has lotsa big trout within walking distance and I found it . . . .  the trouble is it's FN cold Dec.-March.

I stay busy working on my boat in my shop, reloading and tying flies  . . .you got to be fast to catch a fly and tie it.

Sounds like you need to upgrade your home insulation if your furnace isnt shutting off. That or the furnace is to small for your home. No matter how cold it gets outside, it should never run non stop. Should get that looked at because if it quits, the expense of frozen pipes will be costly. And at them temps, the house will cool fast.. Take it from a Canadian

We're having a classic El Nino weather year. When I moved to California in 1977 from southern Ohio, the winter of 76-77 there was well below zero for several weeks and it had never been like that before in my lifetime. That same winter California was experiencing their third winter of drought, and it's all the same weather we're all experiencing this year. The pattern repeats itself every 10-20 years.  It may last another year or or two and it may end in a few weeks. There just isn't any way to tell for sure. It all has with warmer than usual ocean waters near the equator.
