I left Montana and the lakes were just thawing out still early for fishing . . at least your lure doesn't bounce off the ice when you cast. I had to go to Southern California and I ended up being here longer than I wanted but spring is in high gear here and the fish are ready to party. So being how I cant stand to go very long without casting a bait to happy fish I put down the roofing nailer and grabbed my float tube and headed to my favorite lake. When I arrived the fish were happy to see me and showed me by attacking my party favors (baits) with vengeance. Within 30 mins I had 4 nice bass with one going 4+ lbs. It was a nice day on the lake with no other fisherman in sight. Then it happened . . . . . . . I tossed my Zoom 5" curly tailed grub weightless under some Cottonwood tree limbs overhanging the water . . . . .I watched the line suddenly get tight and it was on . . . . . . .I tightened my drag a bit as the Monster Bass started taking line only to get pulled forward by this pissed off Momma . . . ..After what seemed like 15mins of Tug O War I landed this beast. After I snapped this picture I let her go so next time I get sick of working I know where I can fish for a big bass. Final results :14 bass, a crappie the size of an old Buick steering wheel and a bigazz catfish that thought it was a bass. So there are lakes in the LA area that aren't too far from downtown? The last time I fished for bass in SoCal was about 20 years ago at Miramar Lake near San Diego with my dad and brother. Flew down, rented a boat and spent the day watching the "semipro" crowd move about the lake in their $50,000 bass boats snagging bass off of their nests. They literally would motor over with their electric motor until they could see the fish then toss weighted treble hooks right on top of them. We were so pissed we left early and never went back. This lake is about 75 miles east of LA one of my rental properties is 45 miles east I try and never go west to LaLa land even when I lived here the only time I would go to LA would be to take an international flight from LAX. Almost all the lakes near LA have few fish them mostly stocked Trout. Miramar is a small lake with some big Bass in it and I know just what your saying about the guys with the trolling motors hovering over the fish dangling who knows what to try and get them to bite. That to me is not fishing. To me when I cast my bait out the idea that you never know what kind of fish or how big is out there waiting to take a whack at your bait is what makes it fun. "Its not the kill its the thrill of the chase". I'm almost done working on this stinking house and then i'm headed home to Montana to rest a bit then I think I will head to Texas and do a little fishing down there. The weathers getting better by the day so I'm gonna get out there and have some fun. Screw Winter. little_old_man and Coffee4You 2 Awards

I found a place here in Tucson that stocks walleye. $15.99 a pound! I'm road trippin' up the end of July and hope to beg my family for some of their walleye stashes. Maybe some crappies and blue gills to boot. And I might be dreaming here, but I know my brother has some Southern Minnesota corn fed venison in his freezer.
