Strange that because for years now i have been reading stuff that says it actually helps your brain by playing these games, it keeps you alert and makes your brain work which is better than just sitting watching TV with crap like celebrity big brother and all the other cheap shite we show on TV.

Hhmm interesting study as I've worked in this field years as a nurse. Just saying. However new studies always arise and contradict. But as long as I have worked in the field yes both dementia and Alzheimer's is in fact hereditary.

Well my mum and Dad both had it so i checked it out and i think we have to agree to disagree but no it's not, my mums parents lived long lives and neither had dementia, my Mum got it through having General Anaesthetic at the age of 80 having a breast removal, my mum was also the oldest of 9 children and none of her brothers or sisters have or had the disease either, my cousin is a Sister in a local hospital too and she also told me it is not Hereditary....even things like a bang on the head when you are younger can bring this on....as we see in our country now with ex professional footballers who are getting this disease because of heading  heavy footballs all their careers.

I could talk of this for ages to be honest. But I am tired. So agree to disagree :P I am never afraid to learn new things and discover new things. I go to many conferences on the subject as well. This certain disease is a horrible thing to witness.

@Icequeen, I agree with ya. Worked in the field for years as well, and have experienced many cases within my family. Allthough I think it isn't a safe fact for someone to get Alzheimer when his/her mom/dad suffered from it, there is Always a higher chance to develop overtime due to genetics.
On top of that, lifestyle is suggested to have a big influence as well wether or not you develop Alzheimer. Think of smoking, drinking, overweight etc.

On topic: Well, dementia it is for me then!

I have to say SOB that brain damage caused by repetitive trauma is CTE and one of the symptoms of CTE is dementia.  I think that you and Queenie are comparing apples to oranges.  There are many causes of dementia and some are hereditary, such as Familial Alzheimers and Huntingtons Disease to name just two.

Huntingdons disease is a bit different in that it targets young or younger people, 30 year old's can get it and yes i concede that is hereditary in most cases but as i said that is a bit different,  but again i ask how many millions of people have Dementia in the world at this moment that is not inherited from parents...so how did they get it...did the wind blow in the wrong direction then lol. this Honorary Consultant Neurologist from the Institute of Neurology in London must not know what he is talking about then but XI members know better, i rest my case.

I guess the Alzheimer's Society UK also doesn't know what they are talking about...  I did not say that all dementia was hereditary, I said there is scientific evidence that SOME dementia can be hereditary.  It's no different than having any other gene abnormality in your family, some people might get the gene mutation that predisposes them to some sort of disease but may never develop it while others will be stricken with the illness.  The opinion of one Scientist or Doctor is not definitive proof of anything.  To quote a good friend of mine, who is a Neurosurgeon, "It's called Practicing Medicine for a reason."

Processed food is horrible for you. :(

To be honest I think this discussion is just becoming pointless. All I will say is it's a very hard disease to watch someone have. It's hard for the family, and hard for the workers who work with it everyday. But I have to say I love my job regardless, and I love these people. It can be bad days and great days. And I just want them to have the best care they deserve.

One can only be Brainwashed by Giving the Liar's  the Credibility to Listen.

I've heard many, many Lies in my life, and this is just another One.

I bet you the entire lie is based in getting people to buy a New Drug to "Fix" the so called Problem if their was a link between the two...

I have no Idea what this topic is now about................I FORGET IS THIS A SYMPTOM? The previous statement is not to poke fun of folks suffering from these terrible illnesses but just to lighten up the post! This is indeed a terrible affliction effecting everyone in the family!

This young man wrote this song for his Nan suffering from Alzheimer disease.
