I also run malwarebytes and ccleaner. I also run atf, which is another cleaner.  For and antivirus i run Microsoft Security Essentials.  Its free, and can be downloaded off the microsoft website.  None of this shit will do you any good, if you dont keep them updated.

Both of those are good but they are not an antivirus.

Microsoft Security Essentials is all you need - it updates itself.

I used to use AVG, but they screwed up alot two times already in 2 years.

MSE for me caught stuff that AVG didn't notice.

(plus once a week to run: Spybot - Search & Destroy and Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware)

Yeah, the new version of Microsoft security essentials is good, but you still will want to run programs like cclearner and a spyware program like Spybot.  If you want a heavy duty program that covers pretty much everything including cleaning your comp, you can't beat Webroot Security Essentials.

I use Vipre antivirus, and CCleaner on my PC,  and Microsoft Security Essentials/CCleaner on my wife's laptop. Vipre  is incredibly effecient and I really don't see much if any hit in system performance with it. MSE I know little about but it seems to work fine on the laptop.  I used to use Panda antivirus but it was a huge system hog.

Everyone has an opinion.. like buttholes.. everyone's got one... yadda yadda yadda Laughing

Years ago, I did the free stuff. I had to use like 3 or 4 things and keep them all updated and such... BUT, I am LAZY and that was too much work.

SO, I started looking for a suite that would be a no-brainer. One I wouldn't have to touch. I tried several.. Norton (may be good now, but used to be a resource HOG); McAfee.. I hated it; and a couple others.

THEN, I found a 6 month free trial of F-Secure. The company is in Finland, but their product is ROCK SOLID. They have several sets, like just antivirus.. but I prefer the Internet Security Suite, which includes anti-virus and spyware/adware/malware block stuff. It includes parental controls and scheduling etc.

I HAVE NEVER EVER EVER had one virus or crapware get on my computers in 5 years since converting to F-Secure. I don't have to do ANYTHING but pay about $40 a year and the package includes Key for up to 3 computers. Once you make all your intial selections as to how you want to handle how your programs and the internet interact with the software..it is totally hands off. I never have resource trouble with it.  HELL.. do you get the point???? I love this software.

If you are like me, and you don't want to bother with dicking around with security software.. spend the 40 bucks a year and never THINK about it again. ..IN FACT, you can usually find promo and beta codes and get 'extended' time between buying the software. Before the last time I bought the software (which was February) I had been about 15 months beyond the last 1 year subscription without paying a dime. I kept up with free betas and special offers by searching the internet. You don't have to do this, but it does lower your overall yearly cost if you do it from time to time.

For your viewing pleasure. I am sure you can qualify for a free trial to check it out.

I use Malwarebytes and trying out Panda Cloud Antivirus, a small and unobtrusive program seems to work ok and is not a resource hog.
