OK everyone...  As many of you know, I had serious issues with my ears recently, and i got falsely diagnosed with a tumour in my ear.  So all is good there (phew!).  However the pain and problems were still there and the specialist couldn't give me a reason for it.

Anyway I went on vacation last month for a week, which meant no gaming, or use of my gaming headset (Sennheiser P350).  By the end of the week my ears were back to normal.  As soon as used them again for about a week, I was getting the same symptoms again!!!  The headset is great, particularily the build quality.  However it must be a mismatch between the shape of my head!!! and the pressure points this headset exerts on the Eustachian Tubes running from my ears down the side of my neck.  The headset is one where your ears are totally enclosed, and the faux leather sits around the ears, causing excess pressure over long periods of gaming use.

In short, I don't want to say goodbye to a fantastic headset, but the pain is too great...

Please, please, please post replies with the best gaming headsets on the market, that will not cause me these issues.

P.S. Money is no object.

Thanks from a desperate fellow gamer

Just a thought, don't just look at headsets.  A pair of headphones and a mic will greatly expand your possibilities.

Good to read that the medical problem has gone away.  A tough call to answer your request as so many of the headsets are of similar design.  I'm pleased with my Steelseries Siberia V2 and its USB soundcard but that resembles, superficially at least, what you are trying to get away from.  Perhaps an improvised solution is the way to go.  In-ear 'phones would not squeeze your ears and you could rig a mic anywhere.

Are there any shops that don't have the gaming headsets sealed inside awful plastic bubble packaging so the customer can try them on before buying?

Good luck with the quest, mate!

I have to agree with Deejay

the only way to find out is try it...

I had a Steelseries 5H V2 before and it was a real nice headset...light and the sound was not this bad

now I have a Logitech G35 and its a little heavier and it puts a little more pressure on the ears

I would not suggest it to you....though the sound is much better like the Steelseries

hey cavey i got a pair of real cheap ones (like 15 bucks) from radioshack called giga ware. they are super light weight because they only have 1 earpiece. kinda like a telephone operator, boats hates them though he says he can't tell which way(left or right) the sound is coming from but he loves how light they are. i have gotten up multiple times from my pc and forgot they were there walked away just to have my head snapped back by them(suprised they still work) and it doesn't cut you off from the rest of the world. i can't stand those big bulky headsets no more after having these for awhile. and if pressure is the problem i think this would be right good for ya mate. (did i say that right? the accent i meen? lol j/k) alot of my friends laugh and call me the operator when i got them on or they ask if i'm landing planes.....G/L

Cavey buddy, why don't you try some. I am not sure what your law over there says about buying on internet. But here, I can order anything and try it out, but I have to report by their site that : "I don't like it" or "didn't meet my requirements" like that. By that I need to report and send it back within, I believe 8 days here.

You must have a law that covers 'internet selling or buying' or 'buy online',  or try some or visit a shop to test some headsets mate.

/Edit: Just that we don't know your condition and we all love to help, like above.

i have a real nice Creative usb headset that has fantastic sound. Funny thing is, my ears get sensitive and sore real quick, so i just set my headphones around my neck so i can use my mic and i use my old altec lansing external speakers.....now they rock the house and are about 9 years old. Still aint heard a better set of speakers for a pc yet!!!!

Here is an idea that may work since it seems your having a design issue. I have a set of JVC headphones that enclose my ear. The padding around the outside of the ear appears to be made of foam rubber and a faux leather cover. It appears that if you slice a section where it puts pressure on your ear tubes, even a small section removed should relieve the pressure placed on your ears. They may not look great but who cares about looks it is always about results and gameability.

Have you tried just using your desktop speakers? I don't like wearing headsets, so I use the speakers and just set the mic around my neck for chatting. It's a problem if there are others in the room, but I like to be able to hear other things going on, like kids, the door, phone, smoke alarms (LOL), etc. Just a thought.

I like this but the issues I have when using are early AM or Late in the evening it can bother other folks trying to sleep and on mine at least the game sounds go over te voice chat as well.

My recommendations:

Logitech G35 <-- currently using this one, very comfortable, never had any issue with it

SteelSeries 7H, 5H, or Siberia V2

Steelseries Siberia, GREAT sound, though no 5.1,  just stereo,  closed set though, but having very sensitive ears and Eustatius problems after excessive diving I cab play a long time with these..
