Sorry guys but Rugby beats the shit out of NA Football. Why do you guys call it football anyway !>>>!??

I played both in college. Rugby is a lot of fun - no question about it. But there is no way it "beats the shit out of NA football." Have you played both? I do think overall rugby players are better conditioned than the non-skill position players in football, but NA football is much, much more violent. I have met (and played with) many, many NA football players who were good or great rugby players. I have yet to meet a rugby player who became a great NA football player. There is just way too much technical knowledge required for every position on the field in NA football.

American football is one type of "football" sports. It evolved from rugby football and association football, and kept the name. American football started out much like soccer, but the game was deemed to be so violent that rules brought about changes, such as allowing players to throw or carry the ball. People also saw ways to improve this new sport, and changes occurred.

people can mock the name all they want, but it is pointless to do. the name is not changing. the sport evolved. get over it.

I like american football but all the commercial breaks and games pauses drops the level of entertainment for me. Never been to a live game tho. Soccer is the best game by far.

The two games cant be se up against one another. They only have one thing in common and that is the name.

Association football (soccer) of which I am a keen fan attracts some beautiful people.

I am not sure the same could be said of American Football....

Ok peeps! it is now time to weigh in on what is the better, and more popular Sport... Eurpoean style "Football" (that is know as "soccer" in North America) or North American Style "Football".

In order to avoid confusion, we will use the North American (NA) terms.... of "Soccer" to describe eurpoean "football" and "Football" to describe the NA Game.

Which sport requires more skill?

Which sport pays more to their players

Which sport Costs more to their fans?

Any and all coments on each sport are welcome...

So let me start this off...

I think Football in NA is the best as it takes more skill to throw, catch, and run with the ball without dropping it, than just kicking some stupid sphere around for 90 minutes.

Also, it pays more to the players, and costs less (depending where you are) to attend a Football game, than it does to attend a soccer game.

So what is your preference? let us know!

Association football (soccer) was invented in England but it is now international.

It is NOT "European"!

It is played in Europe and every other continent of the world (barring Antarctica?) and many of its most able players

have come from Africa and South America (heck, we even have a few "septics" in the Premier League in England!).

You asked which is the most popular sport...well that is easy Football/Soccer is the WORLDS most popular sport by a long long way, enjoyed by billions of people, end of debate. :coffee:

He also asked about ability to paly and that goes to the NA brand with out a doubt. I also think as far as entertaining when a NA game is a good game with the potential to score on any play it also goes to the NA. Now as far as endurance then it's soccer hands down. People keep in mind we all love our own countries kind for the most part and with some exceptions because it's what we grew up wit and more exposed too. In America today soccer has made a huge leap forward in the last 10 to 15 years but has a long ways to go to catch NA> I have been watching an English sports channel that broadcasts NA games in the UK and I have seen reports that American football is gaining popularity there also, tho I know its well behind soccer!

Yes exactly he asked which was the most popular sport, i think i answered it correctly. He didn't ask what was popular just in North America. The question maybe should have been "in your opinion what is the most popular sport" but it wasn't.

The "Best" between Soccer and Football... is of course NA Football... takes more skill by far. Rugby although is a very tough sport... was not part of the question... lol you bunch of idiots!! can't you read!! :rtfm: :rtfm: :rtfm: :rtfm: :rtfm:

And do you count skill? How do you put a number on the skills required for American Football compared to Football?

Skills like speed, agility, stamina? Or can you list what "skills" you are referring too?

I don’t think the discussion should be what’s the best sport and have the best athletes, but rather what level of entertainment they have to the public.

The two sports are so different, the skills required for each of them are not similar at all, beside the skills required for every team sport.

I find both sports entertaining to look at, but for me, the American football is too slow to watch on TV. Too many breaks and stop in game. I guess it so they can put in some more commercials.

When that is said, I have over the years watched some boring ass Football games..

Dream on Dean, the popularity is American Football in the UK is very low, it probably had it's most popular spell in the 1980's, sitting around for 4+ hours watching a game that only lasts for 4 fifteen minute spells because TV companies tell you that's the way it has to be, doesn't appeal to many people apart from in North America, this whole post is pointless you have your sports that you love and the rest of us have ours and nothing will change that. Yea the real football had the most violent fans of any sport hands down. You dont see this kind of shit with our fake sports. ;)

http://bleacherrepor...erous-fan-bases

"Football is the most watched sport in all of the world. It is also the most passionately supported.

However, with that passionate love of the game comes a great price. At the worst of times that price is even paid in the form of life.

Football is the one sport that has more violence-related fan injuries or deaths than any other. Unfortunately, that has become an all-too-common occurrence in the game around the world.

Ultra fan groups turn the love of competition embraced in the game into something completely different, and many times violence is the outcome between rival club gangs.

In looking at the effect of violence on the game, we take a look at the 10 most dangerous fan bases around the world."
