Eurpoean style "Football" (that is know as "soccer" in North America) or North American Style "Football". In order to avoid confusion, we will use the North American (NA) terms.... of "Soccer" to describe eurpoean "football" and "Football" to describe the NA Game. Which sport requires more skill? Which sport pays more to their players Which sport Costs more to their fans? Any and all coments on each sport are welcome... So let me start this off... I think Football in NA is the best as it takes more skill to throw, catch, and run with the ball without dropping it, than just kicking some stupid sphere around for 90 minutes. Also, it pays more to the players, and costs less (depending where you are) to attend a Football game, than it does to attend a soccer game. So what is your preference? let us know! Better belongs to American Football. And as referenced in a couple of posts I think Rugby is also better than soccer. There's my minority opinion on a issue I would probably lose on the world stage. Soccer does require great skills in ball handling and as well as fitness for the longer plays but again, I much prefer the quick, decisive, ram him down action of NA football. Something has to be said about the endurance and skill of even the big front line guys in football. But that's just me... To most Americans, watching soccer is about as exciting as watching golf. There just isn't enough action to make it interesting to watch compared to "our" football. SB: I will stick with my comment that I agree soccer is more popular worldwide but IMHO American Football and even Rugby are better. I take it as a question with two different answers. Soccer can be played as long as you have a ball to kick around and probably 4 players would suffice for a game. You don't even need shoes in many places. The cost for kids to play soccer I would expect is a significant factor especially in third world countries where much of the population is poor or in poverty. Are we worried about semantics? most popular sport... is, and (I agree with SOB) Soccer. World wide, they are huge!. The "Best" between Soccer and Football... is of course NA Football... takes more skill by far. Rugby although is a very tough sport... was not part of the question... lol you bunch of idiots!! can't you read!! But if i were to compare the game in the USA vs. the Canadian game... Canada's is better... but our talent is lacking... the NFL has the talent that is for sure... take the players from the NFL and have them play by the Canadian rules... that would be the best sports game in the world. While offensive and defensive lineman (and linebackers and fullbacks and, to some extent, running backs) do require brute strength - and at the NFL level super-human strength - the skill position players (quarterbacks, receivers, defensive backs) do not. But they do require world class speed and agility. We're talking about people that can run 4.3 second 40 yard dashes and hit someone - or be hit by someone - going full speed wearing armor and get back up from it. While american football is certainly my favorite spectator sport, I still think hockey players are the best all around athletes. They have eye-hand coordination like baseball players, they hit like football players, they play multiple games a week, they have to have incredible core strength and balance, they have to have supreme fitness at all positions on the ice. The only thing they lack in athletic prowess, really, is the brute strength - but as far as team sports are concerned, you don't see that requirement beyond maybe the props in rugby and the linemen in american football. Although, all that being said, there can be made an argument for NBA players. It is tough for soccer to compete with Am. football (college and pro), basketball (college and pro), nascar, hockey, baseball (although that can be just as slow as soccer sometimes). And for those that didn't hear, MLS attendance was the 8th highest in the world among top soccer leagues last year. a lot of people are turned off by soccer because of the flopping and acting.
