The core of 8 is very good, take a look at the latest .NET libraries and code improvements. In areas where they flattened the graphics and went to a limited color pallet, I couldn't agree more. Beyond that, the simple addition of the FREE "Classic Shell" fixed the Start menu complaints and the ability to boot direct to the desktop makes it a clear winner over Win7. And as you point out, the .NET libraries and other under-the-hood improvements just amplify what we actually interact with. Ironically, I've even come to to be somewhat at peace with the dumbed-down desktop window boarders. eh. You move on, right? Always forward, but on just the same, and don't get stuck in the past.
