Hi all,

 

Anyone else into Photography? I caught the bug in 2014. I'm on  a steep learning curve and take the camera with me everywhere I go - to work, random drives deep into farm country, wherever. My equipment is a Canon 70D with  an image-stablized (IS) 18-55mm lens and a 55-250mm IS lens. I have a heavy duty tripod and monopod. I use Photoshop for cropping and minor touch ups, and Canon's utilities to compensate for the lens' characteristics. I plan on slowly acquiring various accessories as I grow into the hobby, much as I did for the astronomy hobby. I also have an adapter to connect my camera to my large refractor telescope, which is essentially an 820mm f8 lens. My other "camera" is my LG G3 smartphone with a 13 mp sensor.

 

I'd like to hear about your gear, see your shots and discuss tips, tricks, and knowledge.

I took long drives through farm country in SW Ontario over the past couple of weekends. I was looking for decrepit or abandoned buildings and landscapes. I like black and white as a medium.

The sky's too bright in this one. I'll look at trying to change this in Photoshop later, or re-visit the site on an overcast, drizzly day.

hey astronomer glad to see some one else is into photography....like to have that telescope ya got there....nice.....thats next on my list....just what i need is more stuff...lol....i've been into photography fot about mmm 6 or 7 years now ...started with a rebel xsi ...sold it to a freind  . now i have a 7D....EF 24-105 f4L...EF 70-200 f4L...EF 70-300..EF 85 mm f1.8....and  the nifty fifty EF 50mm f1.8.....lots of other stuff too....i know its a big learning curve from a point and shoot to a dslr.... any ways nice shots above....i'll post a few little later have to resize some ...not sure what the size limit is on the forums yet....anyways you keep shooting...lol

I have a Nikon D40 that I've been playing around with for years. I miss 35mm but digital is nice for instant results.

 

This first picture has you in mind Astronomer. I took it in December of 2007. Something caught my eye in the night sky so I took a 20 second exposure of the stars with my camera balanced on a fence post. The end result is a small smudge that turned out to be comet Holmes and I've added an arrow so you can see it.

Here are two more shots of the comet. Not bad for no tripod. In the wider angle shot the comet is far upper left opposite side of picture from Pleiades.

Many years ago I was in the camera club in High School. Nobody remembers now what it's like to develop, fix, and print pictures from film, but it still brings back a passion. Still have my dad's old Argus 35mm. Have to scan some prints take by it, but here's a few pix I took w/a vivitar 2.3mp while we worked in AK. Always fascinated with piping & horizon shots.

I took this at the Electric Daisy Carnival in New Jersey (MetLife Stadium) this year

 

I have a Canon 60D and have been shooting music festivals for a year now.. I'm not a camera tech professional, I just know what looks good and what works best for me LOL. Everything I have learned is by trial and error. I've used Iphoto to edit but I recently got LightRoom so i'll be playing with that now.
