Surgery later this month for a full rotator cuff tear. If you've had it, may I ask...

- Did you try sleeping on the other side? Will they allow that? No way in hell can I sleep in a recliner.

- Do you really have to keep your arm in a sling for six weeks? Can you fudge just a bit?

- How in hell did you put your socks on?

Thanks...

Harry

Sad to say.  You just have to work to find what range of motion you have that doesn’t hurt or irritate it till surgery.  Everyone is a bit different and also depends on the damage.   When I damaged mine I couldn’t raise my arm above shoulder height till it healed up.  Sleeping for me wasn’t so much of a issue as long as I kept my arm low along my side

Hey Harry, we see those all the time. I have a few questions. The rotator is made up of four tendons, did they tell you which ones specifically? Did you tear all of them or a combo. Is it partial tear or full thickness tears?

Thanks Pete. Here's the MRI results: Full-thickness tear involving the anterior 1/2 of the infraspinatus tendon and posterior 1/2 of the supraspinatus tendon (conjoined tendon). Tendon retraction to the apex of the humeral head (reference image 11 series 401). Mild muscular atrophy of the infraspinatus tendon at supraspinatus tendon.
Subscapularis: Intact.

Long head of biceps: Tenosynovitis long head biceps tendon. Intact.
Teres minor: Intact.
Labrum: Intact.

I'm doing OK now but my concerns are after the surgery.

Harry

Hi Harry When i had mine done I slept in a recliner for almost six weeks. I had to kept it strapped to my side that long. I also had the cold pack pump . Mine was a tear bone spire and calcium growth though a tendon. Now very little pain at all, but PT was tough. But you have to do it. let me know if you need anymore info.

I find a staunch regimen of reciprocal-motion exercises most beneficent.

Hell ya. I got carpal tunnel from whacking off to much. Tried with both hands once and ended up with a black eye. Safest way is to switch hands every other time. lol
