Well ill go first and get yelled at and made fun of but here I go.  I prefer AMD yes I said AMD!  I realize that intel clock for clock will beat most amd chips but I just can't see the need to spend 300.00 plus on a cpu when the 140.00 cpu from AMD will run my needs just fine.  Plus if AMD fails and closed down intel would have a monopoly and could charge a lot more for their chips and would have no incentive to improve them but just marginal like apple does its products. Introducing the new Iphone 5s, The "s" stands for shiny.

i will be second then lol. i have built both amd and intel systems and with amd i feel i get more bang for my buck. simple economics. i have a black edition amd dual core right now unlocked and it shows up in cpuz as a quad core. 99 dollars can't beat it.

I prefer Intel but can't afford a good chip at upwards of $1000 for a decent one.So I bought the best AMD chip that was available at the time.$189.99 for an 8 core cpu that overclocks like a beast.

Currently running at 4.7ghz it will go alot higher but I like them to run cool, they last longer. 32c idle 48c at 100% load running 10 instances of prime95+.Not to shabby in my book.

i got the i7-965 extreme....retail four years ago $1,300 bucks.....had free money so i went nuts,,,never tried amd but fixed lots of them,,,intel is  the king if you are in that realm of being able to afford it,but whatever works for your budget who cares...i got an old dell that still plays cod4 just as good as my pricey comp...but that is as far as it goes...when the clocks get higher thats when intel starts to breeze on by the amd wagon with the square wheels...lol

Intel: Best performance, more reliable, very high price.

AMD: may require a bit of hardware knowledge to setup, AMAZING price.

I usually go AMD just because it's more affordable for the same benchmarks.

AMD, mostly because of price for what you get. A black phenom 2 quad core but havent overclocked it or anything. Not exactly sure what I can do with it.

I have my AMD FX-8120 clocked at 4.2ghz and running a cooler master hyper 212 evo cooler with no problems at all.  For the money you cant beat the performance in my mind.  If amd shuts down intel will have no competition and will charge crazy high prices and do crappy updates like apple does on their iphones.

Well like I say it depends on what you want to do with it and what your budget is. Cad/Cam or vid editing and 3d modeling is where intel will pay for itself. Gaming isn't as Core number friendly as most think. the majority of games like 99.9% only use 2 cores. A couple use four. What is important is the clock speed of those cores. So if you think "I'm gonna drop on a s Hex core" cause it will game better, you are uninformed and wasting money. A high clocked dual or quad is more than enough for ripping through the most demanding of games. As many have said intel rulz the roost currently in clock for clock cycles so an I5 hyperclocked to 4.5 Ghz or higher is a monster for gaming provided you have a GPU that can handle it. AMD Quad cores will do well overclocked too but the overclock margins are usually a good bit lower. whatever you decide is your call just make sure the clock speed is up there. If you are willing to overclock it will serve you well provided you aren't GPU bound. I have had and loved both AMD and Intel CPU's. I currently run a 1366 (first gen) i7 920 2.6 @ 4.5 on water. was it worth the $200 for that kind of headroom. Hell yes. I am a geek so there I said it.

I ran AMD's starting with the 386/40 up until COD4 was released.  Then I got a good price on Intel's E6750.  Wanting to upgrade to a faster cpu I moved to a Q9550 and oc'd it to 3.6ghz, which is still fast enough to run anything out there.  AMD has the best bang for the buck, Intel's will run faster.  So you have to balance it between needs... wants... and most importantly - MONEY.

My first build was way back in the old 386 days.  I remember buying an AMD 386/25 and a seperate math coprocessor to speed it up.  It was a huge leap adding the math coprocessor !!   Showing my age.   In all those years since, I have built over 100 systems and all but maybe 6 have been AMD.   Its all about the pairing of the cpu and motherboard.  My main gaming rig is an AMD Phenom II 965 Black  (quad core) and its paired to a DFI LanParty 790FX-B motherboard.   This has been my main game system since Dec of 2009 !!!!!!   And it still will play and run with zero issues anything I throw at it.  This "Pairing" has seen 2 different graphics cards and many hard drive and optic drive upgrades in those 4 years.   Now I did rescently build a Intel i7 2600k rig for music production and I have to say...  While it runs very well, the quality of the CPU mounting system is JUNK !!!  Why would Intel design such a cheap ass socket.   Anyway, Im a firm believer in AMD and that any system will easily get you years of use, with proper cpu/mainboard pairing and a few graphics card upgrades.  peace !!!

Every computer I have owned in the past has had an AMD processor. The latest rig that I built a couple of months ago I decided to switch and I went with the Intel i5 3570K and I absolutely love it.
