Uh, no. There are campers and there are campers. Perhaps you dont care when some loser does nothing but hide prone in the grass underneath a walkway shooting everybody. But I do. Keep in mind there are quite a few here that consider stealing care packages without permission a kickable offense. A bit two-faced if you ask me. You can camp like a teenage girl scout around the fire roasting marshmellows  but you cant take someone else's care package.

 

Stealing vs. Camping is not the same thing in my book. Campers always get caught and get caught fairly quickly. We have a camping medal but not one for stealing care packages.

This game mod is not about realism. When you get shot you don't FREEZE in a bubble in real life. So let's just drop the tempting real life situation comparisons. Camping sucks, for the one who gets shot by a camper but a camper loves the idea of holding a position and taking out the 'morons' running around. Some people like hiding and slowly taking down the enemy. 

 

On the flip side, some like running and hopping around dodging bullets. You can build mouse clicking reflexes (aka Skill) in either game play. Let's face it, when you're shooting somebody and you don't get a kill, you will want to blame something. I hear cries about, bunny hoppers, screen lag, high ping, low ping, campers, bullets going thru people. There are some genuine issues AFAIK with the game and then there is just dissatisfaction with not getting a kill. You have to learn to deal with it, the shit is the shit. 

 

I am not trying to make a point simply stating what I see to be the facts, perhaps, that's the point. 

 

Adding extra bounty on someone who stays in one spot for more than 3 minutes is a great idea. I think camping or hiding and taking out enemies from one spot, however annoying, is still part of the game that makes it fun in its own way. I mean I enjoy hunting campers/hiders (e.g. Nighto).

 

No one should force anyone to play in any one particular fashion. That's what makes our server welcoming to all, its a good mix of all kinds of shit.

There is about 5 seconds of invisible spawn protection.  This leaves ample time to get out of the way of anyone camping in spawn.  In fact, the more, the better.  Many have matches have been completely turned around because people camp in spawn and get stuck there, unable to be thawed.

It depends on the map certainly. Doesnt currently help if the player is doing something like changing classes and it stops while is he standing there. Or areas that are spawn trapped. So there are always exceptions and the question is do you say too bad or do something about it. This is almost like a First Amendment case in court and they battle over where the limits are because some small group is upset that they cant use their 'rights' to affect the lives of other people. Its not a free-for-all.

That's the ballsiest move of all, you go behind enemy lines and take them out when they're not looking. Come on, man that's not your classic cowardly sitting in one spot, that's hitting them where it hurts the most :D. Eventually found, shot and stuck in their spawn but you rack up some nice number of kills some times.

To you its balsy. To me its cheap.  But that has to do more with the maps and how spawns are distributed than the theory.

 

On a large map with reasonably well dispersed spawns then have at it. The two spawn areas in Backlot are a good example of what not to do. One is nice and open, tho the spawns should have been in the parking lot, while the other is almost a killing box. Some players seem to forget that spawn protection is something modders added to help with situations like that. Also something some players consider cheating. They consider it as giving an unfair advantage to their enemies even tho both sides have it.

 

I understand this is a long time sever and making rule changes, if it can be called that, is a very big deal. However sometimes rules have to be tweaked if there is a general feeling of unhappiness. In this case I am certainly in a minority. Likely a very small minority. But it doesnt mean I am wrong. Only means most people dont care.

This is going to come across as me being a bitch but at this point IDK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I have always been told here your not allowed to say anything on how people play this game but it's ok for the person modding the server to control how people  play this game???? Am I wrong ??? When did it become ok for one person to make it so we all HAVE to play like he wants?

Let me start by saying that I camp, bunny hop and spam walls (picked up bunny hopping and now starting to spam walls). Still relatively new to this game and XI and developing my skills.

 

Having said that, I do get killed by others doing the above things (and tubing) and I have (while venting over the kill) said things like "effing camper" or "effing spammer" or "effing noober" and then immediately remembering XI rule about not ridiculing a game style. So in that sense, I do see where @@Giggles is coming from. Thanks Giggles for sharing your thoughts and I must admit that I was thinking that too, you actually had the balls (metaphorical ofcouse :) ) of saying it.

 

Also I do realize that the mod we have is from @@Sammy 's consistent hard work resulting in our servers becoming increasingly popular. Most of us (I think) cant understand Sammy's efforts and dedication as we don’t have the skill that Sammy offers to everybody by making and keeping COD4 interesting for all of us. Cant thank you enough for all that you do Sammy.

 

I love the Mod (even with the camper bounty with initial aggressive timers) but I just feel that changes that effect a particular gaming style may have an impact of some people feeling targeted. May be we can make things harder for all styles and that could be the next step of innovation (ofcourse step by step). Just my thoughts...

It looks like the overall consensus on the anti-camp is not a welcomed addition to the mod. I think a vote should be set up to see if it is kept in or taken out let's do this the democratic way.

Well... ok I didnt mean it like that. Except that there is nothing wrong with saying a game sucks for not handing something well, so I will stop talking about it. Good intentions and all of that. But if people cant voice their opinion... such as saying I hate noob tubers or people that place all their claymores in spawn areas... then there is something wrong. Otherwise its like Communism. You can complain about how a factory functions and how inefficient it is, so long as you dont blame the Party or its apparatus.

 

TBO I am upset because I spent an entire day recoding it all to add all the various alterations and exceptions wanted and didnt get a chance to even upload it and see how it worked. I am not going to remove it from the mod because quite frankly I think the idea behind it is fun, not punitive, and mixes things up but it will be an option for other servers to use if they want.

@@Sammy, I am sorry too if I upset you. I wish I could offer my help besides just saying thanks for your effort. I have to say that the new timers and the enhancements discussed do seem very interesting and I would hate for any of your efforts go to waste.

 

All I am saying is Thanks and I am up for trying new things and "restrictions" that will make our game play even more interesting.

At the moment I am rewriting some things to add the 10-20 point silent player bonus to go along with all the other things. So far it all seems ok just need to shoot a lot more bots first. The termination things will also still be there if in the future everyone wants to give it a try. Sometimes there is nothing wrong with slapping a player with a trout.

 

edit: Forgot to say, other mods have a variation of anti-camping where it takes away all your weapons and turns you into a chicken.

Game play differs from map to map. Some are fast paced some are slow, sniper maps. I have most fun and do rather well on fast maps. You have to adapt to the game.

 

Hey speaking of trouts, can we add a server command !slap similar to the !fu command for clan members.

 

Who would do that Sitting-duc or you?

 

On a side note. Lets all just play knife only from now on.

I think that although many of the features you have put in sammy are great - there is always going to be a feature that just doesn't work and isn't on the whole wanted.  This isn't a knock on your hardwork.  It would be silly to think that everything one does is going to be liked/wanted.  

 

camping bounty has caused uproar, many of the other stuff you have done however has been greatly appreciated.  The problem is the bag appearing giving away a position.  If someone is sniping - it doesn't take long for the other team to know where they are and sooner or later they will  be got.

This is true. I have tried other things that didnt work well or were simply not fun. But in those cases I didnt have to take it out before trying out the changes to make it better. However I understand the issue wasnt how well it would work but whether or not the idea itself was acceptable and fair. :animier:

 

Snipers were exempt because they are supposed to camp by their very nature. The argument didnt go anywhere.

I think I know why all this started...

 

There is a story of little boy who liked bunnies very much. One day his father took him camping, they accidentally brought less food so after the first night they ran out of provisions. The father of the boy thought this might be a good opportunity to teach his son about survival. The forest was rife with hares, so he setup  a trap to catch one. While father and son sat in one spot, the boy got bored watching the trap but soon enough came a hoppidie hoppidie furry creature and walked in their trap. The boy was excited but then his father killed the bunny and de-skined it right before his eyes. This imagery and experience scared the boy. From that day onward the boy hated camping and even bunnies to protect himself from ever loving those furry creatures. That boy grew up to become a Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare game modder. We call him Sammy. It's Ok brother, let it all in. We are here for you :sorry:  :acute:.

Hehe. Good story but not true. Actually had to do with a camping trip one summer and there was this scout master..... just kidding.

 

In all seriousness I got my start in MP on sniper servers on big maps where camping was the name of the game but you still moved around when appropriate to outflank your enemies and find a good position. Especially when you shot an enemy.  It would be more appropriately be called stealth.  You also got very good at using sound to look for your enemies. Some people today seem to call that whoring and cheating. My how the world has changed. Anyways perhaps this helps show why I have a problem with a few cod4 campers here and there. A different point of view in what that kind of thing really is. Or should be. As a sniper I would move now and then. It was the smart thing to do. Some players here wont budge an inch when they find their favorite spot then pick a small area to stare at.

 

I suppose it also depends where people started playing the most. If its S&D/Domination/CTF they cant stand the non-team action of TDM. More often than not the T is there just for show. If its TDM-first they cant stand having to spend their time capturing or destroying objectives. Its almost painful. Their only goal is to kill as many enemies as possible. Perferably with WMDs. They based wins on whether or not you can get 30 kills or more. Otherwise you suck. Ftag is certainly a team game but I wonder how many in the server dont give a damn what team wins or loses. Only what their personal kill score is. The easy answer I suppose is to say I am playing the wrong gametype. Maybe that is true. Unfortunately getting most people here to play anything other than TDM based games, ftag or not, even for a minor diversion is a real chore even if its all there ready to go.
