With the Iranians now able to trade their oil and, I read, intending to pump 500,000 barrels per day, the price may fall further. If I drove a lot, I'd rejoice but, these days, I fill the tank every two months. Indeed, this fall in price could hurt me as my pension is increased in line with inflation - zero inflation = zero extra cash. Awards

Thank you Dems and all your taxes. If I drive a few hours and go over to Nevada I can purchase the same gas that was trucked from here cheaper. And then add in CAs seasonel blend fuel. One for winter and one for summer. With $.90 cents per gallon in taxes and fees that was supposed to go to road maintenance you would think we would have great roads to drive on, not even close to being the case. But still paying $2.65 a gallon for mid grade. Sucks Awards

It is huge compared to probably every other state even with the budget deficits. The problem is that the number of roads and/or improvements required is more than even that money can handle. The number of road miles per resident is pretty high in a state that loves to drive and wants their roads and big highways everywhere and wants them now. We would think that the taxes per resident here would be the highest in the nation. On the list it is more like 6th or 7th. A complicated list with lots of caveats. One of which is the voter decision to limit residential and commercial property taxes back in the late 70's so people dont get taxed out of their homes especially the retired. We benefit from that greatly. But you reap what you sow. We pay higher gas taxes but in return our property taxes dont explode every year unless we sell and move somewhere else in the state or make major additions. Want the state to pay for stuff? We can either change the laws so property taxes are calculated like most everywhere else. Or get the taxes elsewhere. You choose. Awards

If they are that good with the money why are we paying 6.5 billion for a bridge that was estimated originally at less than one billion. And what we got has major construction issues on the final product. The city I live in (Concord ) was rated at number 15 in the unit d states for worst streets. Awards

We wanted it. We wanted it now. We wanted it cheap. We demanded low-bidder. When we pushed to get it built without proper studies (which we tend to equate with 'more expensive') we rolled the dice that it wouldnt come back to bite us in the ass. Then we complain when it does. Multi-billion to do it right the first time? Or one billion and take a greater risk of problems or a half-assed final product? Most people always choose one billion and ignore everything else. People that say 'wait' are just nay-sayers. So in this particular case, it was supposed to be a multi-billion dollar project but we would only accept a cheaper one. Same thing. You get what you pay for and its going to cost much more than it would have otherwise. Awards

So in this particular case, it was supposed to be a multi-billion dollar project but we would only accept a cheaper one. Same thing. You get what you pay for and its going to cost much more than it would have otherwise.[/ After years of being in construction and a engineer the problem with the bridge was bad over sight. There is no justifiable reason for it being over 6 times original budget and still needing 100s of millions to correct defects. Where is the engineering firms and contractors responsibility in seeing that it was built right? Instead they are still being paid to deliver a bad product. Along with that the public has been lied to about some of the entering so called problems with the old bridge along with the claim that surface rust after two years is causing the foundation bolts to break. I have never seen or heard of that happening in that size of fastener. Also consider that the bolts I the old bridge were rusted past the point of being able to even remove them without cutting no them and they still held presents a big hole in there assessment of the problem. Our biggest problem in CA is bad management. The 680 24 exchange in walnut creek. I saw those plans 18 years before it was built and at that time they were already 5 years old. These were not study plans but actual construction prints. I use to run about 50 million in projects per year and it was always frustrating when I had to deal with anything having no to do with the roads. They alway ran the price way above what it should have really cost for the projects Awards
