The computer will not boot up unless I unplug almost all usb devices, including the keyboard. Once the log in screen is up, I have to plug the keyboard in to log in. The keyboard will only operate in the ROG Connect USB port. This is a new keyboard that I bought because I thought the old one was possibly going bad. 2. Computer doesn't recognize my web cam anymore. Yesterday, I went to open the webcam software and it wasn't in my program list. Weird. It used to be there. So I downloaded it again. Still, no web cam is detected even thought it's plugged in. 3. I have a new scanner. It was working fine last week. Now it isn't being seen by the computer either. I went through the troubleshooting steps to no avail. I went to the Control Panel and the scanner isn't showing in the Imaging Devices. What the heck???? 4. I have a USB hub. I thought that it may be the problem. However, even when I unplug devices from the hub and plug them straight into the computer, they still don't work. I'm sure there's other stuff going on but these are the main things for now. Any help is appreciated. Awards

In this case though, it's hard not to believe it's not a virus. That said, I might safe boot with networking, then point my browser at the eset online scanner found here: http://www.eset.com/us/online-scanner/ I'd keep the usb hub disconnected, and the keyboard connected to a native usb port (assuming you have it connected elsewhere usually.) I'd keep scanners, printers, cams, and any other device out of the picture while figuring this out. A rollback should wait till you determine if you're clean. Have you installed something new lately? It could, however be a corrupt motherboard chipset driver since we're seeing a pattern here with USB devices. Let's not jump to hardware too fast, other than the USB hub, that is. Get that thing out of the way, then scan for a virus. A virus could certainly generate erratic behavior with software and manifest in strange behavior in peripheral devices, or applications going missing. If the virus scan is clean, then refresh your motherboard chipset drivers. Use Driver Detective - http://www.drivershq.com/ OR - get the chipset drivers from your computer manufacturer or motherboard manufacturer. Awards

So one answer is to go back to a time before you installed that keyboard. Another is to see if windows see's the issue. Go Control panel / device manager / universal serial bus controlers <- double click that and see if there's some broken. You can from there right click on anyone of them and select update drivers to repair them. I sence a problem in the force PingLo says get a Mac I have no idea what burgers has to do with this ? The problem actually started before the new keyboard which is one of the reasons I got a new one. One day out of the blue, the computer wouldn't boot up. I contacted Larsin (who is incredibly tech savvy and a genuinely nice fella) and he suggested that it was my keyboard. He explained that I needed to change something in the settings to ignore keyboard errors upon startup. Don't recall exactly what he said but I wrote it down. Bama gave me the disk today for the USB drivers. I'm going to re-install them tomorrow and see what happens. Virus scans have so far come back clean. Thank you all for your suggestions. I'll let ya know how it's going. Awards

When did you notice it beginning to act strange? One question you have probably been asked already and have also done is have you checked every one of your connections on your m/b and to your hard drive? If you have then try resetting your video connections. Do you see any light or flicker on your monitor or any sign of life? And any if not see if Bama will hook his to your pc and see if that may be the culprit! The method to the madness is to rule out anything and everything its not! It sounds like its not loading the os and booting sequence but others may have more to add to that! Edited February 1, 2013 by Bigmeandean Awards

As per other advice here, first, remove the USB hub and all other devices using USB ports. Plug in only the keyboard and mouse, nothing else, then boot and if successful, attempt a restore to a previous saved point. Hopefully, this will undo any changes made in settings (as a piece of advice, never change settings unless you fully understand what you're doing and how you can undo it.) Once back up from restore, begin plugging in your USB devices. Make sure each is recognized and working before you plug in the next one. It may well be that you had too many powered USB deices on the hub, which overloaded the mobo's ability to deliver sufficient power to all of them, which could have damaged your mobo. The process above, if things go OK, will determine that because you'll find that devices won't install as you had them previously set up. Good luck. Awards

I have had this problem in the past and this worked for me. That should determine if it is a driver issue. If that doesn't work, then I would start looking at a hardware problem. Awards

I wasn't sure if windows would reload USB drivers automaticly so I did not advise that method. But that would be how to do it. Same as that cod4 sound issue you can delete the sound drivers and let windows load the generic drivers that ussually works for the sound issue. Thanks bootleg. Awards
