Yeah, probably got me right.  Said "Inland North."  Even though I was born in NY and lived there during my childhood, the upper midwest does have a hold over me.  Goddamn cheese curds.

Funny, it said I had a midland accent even though I'm from the west. But my family is from Ohio and Nebraska. So I guess there is some truth to this thing. Pretty cool.

I told y'all I ain't got no accent! Take dat, y'all ijits! Oh, and New Orleans born and bred!

What American accent do you have?

Your Result: The Midland

100%

"You
have a Midland accent" is just another way of saying "you don't have an
accent." You probably are from the Midland (Pennsylvania, southern
Ohio, southern Indiana, southern Illinois, and Missouri) but then for
all we know you could be from Florida or Charleston or one of those big
southern cities like Atlanta or Dallas. You have a good voice for TV
and radio.

Does anyone take any notice of your regional accent over there?

Are positive or negative inferences made just by the way one speaks?

In the UK, in the past, our public broadcaster - the BBC - would only employ announcers

who spoke in a "Received Pronunciation" (RP) accent.  (This is that one hears

when HM The Queen speaks, for example.)  Recently it was established by a poll

that people are suspicious of RP-speakers and associate it with dishonesty

whereas the north-eastern regional accent (as heard when SOB opens his mouth

;) ) is the most trustworthy.  There are many call centres in Newcastle-upon-Tyne!

I'd be interested to hear if there are similar accent-related prejudices in the States.

Is someone who speaks with a mid-western accent viewed more positively than a

southerner or vice versa just due to the way they speak?

Well, I can tell you that it is a rare to hear an anchorman or woman with one of the nasaly midwest accents.  In most cases individuals have a slight accent on larger networks, but they attempt to play them off for the sake of everyone listening to their reports.  Many of the field reporters let their accents slip once in a while.  Personally, I enjoy hearing the small-town accents because they are sometimes absolutely ridiculous and make me feel at home.  Like people saying "beggle" instead of bagel.  I would say accents really come out on sports radio.  I guess it's a way to drawn-in the regional crowd.  Most importantly, a network can not say that someone will not be hired due to their accent because that would be grounds for a discrimination lawsuit (as ridiculous as that is).

Personally, I do not have an accent, but I am good at imitating them because I grew up overseas.

What American accent do you have?

Your Result: The Northeast

Eighty percent (it posted a smile face when I post the figure)

Judging by how you talk you are probably from north Jersey, New York City, Connecticut or Rhode Island. Chances are, if you are from New York City (and not those other places) people would probably be able to tell if they actually heard you speak.

Yes, there are many in our country that associate a southern accent of any kind with lower intelligence which is absolute bullshit. Here in California most of the democrats consider people with southern accents as sub-human and call them racist rednecks primarily because of their hatred for GW Bush. But they forget that two of their heroes (Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter) were from southern states and had heavy accents as well.

Just as with anything else in the US, accents can be a political issue for those on the left.

Remember Janey asked "where are you from" as she didnt recognize my accent lol

The Inland North (81%)The Northeast (71%)

"You may think you speak "Standard English straight out of the
dictionary" but when you step away from the Great Lakes you get asked
annoying questions like "Are you from Wisconsin?" or "Are you from
Chicago?" Chances are you call carbonated drinks "pop."

My non native english accent comes from hearing other people talk I think.
