Hi I am just curious if anyone has bought prescription glasses specifically for computer use (3-4 feet). I think using my monitor has been causing me slight headaches for a little while now... or kind of a numbness I guess but not painful... and with my aging eyes maybe its time. My current pair are for mid-to-far. Since they are basic work glasses and nothing fancy lenscrafters... who I have never used before... can make them up quickly. Otherwise the optometrist I have used will take two weeks and I dont know if they would be any better for basic glasses.

I have UV filters on my glasses and it seems to help a bit but this all White theme and small text is very very hard on the eyes. It gives me headaches after a couple minutes. Starts just behind my eyeball and it will turn into a full blown headache about 5 minutes later if i keep looking at it.

Selecting Warm Color Tone #2 in my monitors settings seems to help alot.  If the text was a bit bolder it would not be as bad.  LED monitors bright blueish back light is almost as bad as those damn piercing Blue Car headlights.

Thank You @BUDMAN

Just found this. Tried it and It helps a little but it goes from red to orange to yellowish. Still pretty damn bright.

Wonder if my 27" Samsung SyncMaster SA550 has blue-light protection?  My neighbor gave it to me for fixing his lawn mower. It has a bunch of stuff in the options. I don't know wtf most of it does.

I adjust the RGB settings, so its softer on the eyes. Plus I have setup Windows to DIM the colors after sunset.

I have glasses with AR coating and well I got every coating they were offering.

Got my glasses. Considerably clearer. Things are a little more contrasty as well so kind of bothers my eyes a bit, to be expected, and its going to take a little while to get used to them.

On a similar subject.  Seems a few tech companies and a tech college are working on monitors that can be focused.  Meaning you plug in your glasses prescription and its in focus.  No more glasses, well, at least for computer work.

A good idea to make things better except that often peoples eyes, like mine, are not the same. Each lens is a little different.

i use a pair of glasses that i had made for work. they call them double d's, i have bifocals at the top and the bottom of the lenses. of course my eyes maybe a lot worse than yours are lol... i got mine at america's best store

@Sammy More seriously, if you can read French, here under you'll find an article about a test of glasses for computer (blue light).

It's an abstract of a very serious consumer's magazine testing all kind of products and giving ranking of them (they don't accept any advertising and only live from subscriptions).

What it says in conclusion, it's that you can't find any glasses giving a protection of more than 20% (the ones from Essilor as stated by themselves, one of the biggest and most innovative optical companies). It means that wearing these glasses will allow you to stay 1h12 instead of 1h in front of your screen without dangerousness.

PS: and the best to try to fix it is to monitor the settings of the screen to lower the blue light (as done by @iboomboom)

Hopefully its not just coincidence but after a couple days keeping track I dont seem to get getting eye strain or minor headaches anymore using the new glasses for reading. Still a little bit but not nearly as much. Keeping my fingers crossed.
