J3st3r started following Windows update issue. BIOS

Bricked Bios. Only a couple ways to fix that on a board that does not have the Bios Flashback option or Dual Bios. Either buy a Chip Programmer, or buy a pre programed bios chip and solder it onto the board or send it in to a Tech and have them do a Bios recovery and re-flash with a Chip Programmer. I've seen that you can buy USB to Pogo pin type Chip programmers pretty cheap on Ebay these days. Might be better off buying another motherboard for it. Looks like they sell for around $100 new on ebay occasionally. Just looked it up and they do have a standard 8 pin Eeprom style Bios chip soldered onto the board. You can buy a cheap programmer for around $20 but I would definitely do some research on how to use one 1st and find out what program you need in conjunction with the tool to do it. Loooks like the Intel boards are alot harder to find for those than the AMD AM4 motherboards so good luck finding one. lol

Screen flickering or black screen Call of Duty 4
iboomboom replied to RANDALL's topic in Computer Help
Right some times the config doesn't get copied over so it puts the game in windowed mode. Which is why everything is so dark. - Yesterday

It's the mp_brokenroad map I took it out the rotation, will add a fix for it, then put it back in.

The keyboard is usb, plugged into the rear. Not sure if it’s a 2.0 usb port or not though. I assume so? The computer itself turns on, the case lights up, fans turn on, the graphics card lights up. No beeping sounds. Just no signal to monitor, no power to keyboard or mouse. A little frustrating since this came from an update. Then you look on Microsoft website and they say they get their updates from the manufacturer, look on the manufacturer website and they say we don’t currently support that 3 year old pc. Or no software or updates found for this pc is what it actually said, but.. man. I’ve never seen this happen, then have issues finding the files to fix it. lol

I do not have too !!! I have my wife feel it for me !!!

I had a similar issue, not flickering or black screen. But after cod4x install, everything was really really dark. And adjusting the brightness did nothing. I hit optimize video setting in game not know what it would do. Then was stuck in windowed mode which was hella small. Ended up uninstalling cod4x with the uninstall app in the cod folder. Restarted and adjusted the screen resolution to match my desktop resolution to get out of windowed mode that was stuck. Rejoined the server and had cod install cod4x. So far everything works good.

Chatgpt reckons there's no way to get the original bios from the hd, as it's on a chip. It also says: Use a basic wired USB keyboard (not wireless or Bluetooth). Plug it into a rear USB 2.0 port directly on the motherboard. Try Windows + B first, then Windows + V if that doesn't work. Hold the keys for 30–40 seconds after releasing the Power button. Just pointing that out in case it could be useful. It also asks: "Does the computer's power button light stay on, and do the CPU/case fans spin normally when it's turned on? That will help determine whether the motherboard is at least starting POST or is failing much earlier". It also asks if there are any beeps.
-
Yes, I went through all of the different steps HP recommended for recovery. This one won’t work because aside from no video signal, there is no power to the keyboard. So, pressing anything on the keyboard for recovery won’t work. A flash drive I think is my only option. Im at work right now, when i get home i will give the one from your first post a try. And I don’t suppose there’s away to recover the original bios if i connected the hd to another computer? Then crated a flash drive boot from that?

Hey @RobMc - here's @BUDMAN's dream
-
I take it you went through these steps: " Recovering the BIOS using key press combination When you upgrade the BIOS on your PC, a copy of the previous BIOS version is stored in the HP_TOOLS partition of your hard drive. Many HP computers have an emergency BIOS recovery feature that allows you to recover and install the last known good version of the BIOS from the hard drive, as long as the hard drive remains functional. This emergency recovery feature is separate from the BIOS and is designed to work in the event of a catastrophic BIOS failure. To recover an earlier version of the BIOS on your PC: Turn off the computer. With the computer off, press and hold the Windows logo key and the B key at the same time. Still pressing those keys, press and hold down the Power button on the computer for 2 to 3 seconds, and then release the Power button but continue to hold the Windows and B keys until the BIOS update screen is displayed or until you hear a beeping sound (usually 8 beeps). The power LED light remains on, and the screen remains blank for about 40 seconds before anything appears on the display. You might also hear beeping sounds. Eventually, an HP BIOS Update screen displays and the BIOS update begins automatically."
