Hi guys, so apart from getting shot to pieces everyday which I have to admit is my favourite time of day, I have another hobby , metal detecting, over this year I've found some lovely old stuff, but yesterday I found a once in a lifetime find, an early bronze age axe head, it's over 4000 years old as you can imagine I am made up and just wanted to share it with you guy's.

Has britain returned any artifacts?
Crosses, religious texts and a shield were among the items of the Maqdala collection returned to Ethiopia in 2021. But more artefacts looted by British soldiers during the Battle of Maqdala in 1868 remain in British museums.Nov 28, 2023

It's OURS, we owned the world so it's ours, but cross our palms with silver and we might give you things back (you pay the postage). Got some nice Greek marbles on offer this month.

Yes I'm afraid, I had to declare it as treasure trove, they will take it, appraise it, I might get it back, or they might say it's a museum piece ( witch is probable) then its place in museum auction and I am compensated, I've already stated I want to give it to the local heritage society, but it might be taken out of my hand

The Vikings etc give back what they stole we might consider it, maybe the American govt would like to give all the land back to the native Indians, all conquering armies have stolen from the conquered for as long as mankind has picked up his first weapon, if people did their  research then they would realise just about every country in the world has stolen from another country, and these Woke idiots making stupid claims about Britain would realise their own country is just as guilty. All I can say is that was then and this is now....take it up with the Ancestors and before you shout about other peoples countries take a good look at your own first.

Love it buddy, now put your steel helmet on because that remark won't go down well, they think it's just us in the UK, God forbid you remind them of how they got their land.

That is truly a great find and glad to see you're not a moonlighter, we have lost so many treasures to those criminals. One of the sad things is for the average person we can only detect metals, imagine if you dug another foot and discovered the skeleton of the man who held it and clues how he died?

I have in the past ten years become fascinated by the Romans, especially North of the wall as it is a misconception that they never conquered Scotland, which of course they did following the battle of Mons Graupius. They built huge marching camps and forts all over Scotland especially the borders, wouldn't it be great to discover a Roman in armour?

I live North of the wall and when I could looked for the camps, roads and settlements clearly marked on ordnance survey maps. That is when I realised the wall was a back up defence as Roman influence extended way beyond it, I once did a walk with the county archaeologist he really opened my eyes.

I look forward to your next finds

@cdsinuk is it normal to find something that old so close to the surface? It looks like you didn't have to dig really deep once you got a hit on your detector. I just ask because here in North America non-precious metal items that are maybe 500 to 600 years old have been found as well as some 2000 year old Roman Coins. There have been people using Iron and harder metals where you live for thousands of years as well as living on most of the land like where it appears you found it. I am just thinking something that old would have had more dirt deposited on it over time. Obviously erosion and other factors can keep things from going deeper under the soil or is it common for your finds to be at that sort of depth? I have heard the new coils are much better then the old ones we saw as kids being used by old men on the beach looking for lost jewelry. Pretty cool find and shame you can't choose to with respect have it treated as you you wish. I am sure you reported your find, because it is not like a cop was watching you to see if you found any thing good. Finding parts of History where one lives is a cool way to spend time and help the picture of days past be more complete. I just hope if it is of some monetary value that you get your fair share. I know that is not why you do it but it is always nice to have some extra cash. Thanks for sharing.

That is a great find!  I have been metal detecting for several years, and have found some interesting items.  I have a White's Gold Master and I got it to use on the gold claims that I was a part of at the time.  The claims in that area had been worked between 1896 and 1911 and produced $11,000,000 at $8 dollar gold price.  What was neat is that I found a buried trash dump and as I started going through that I found all kind of old stoppered bottles and about anything you can think of, including a Winchester rifle that had been burnt..... gave it to my father-in-law and he hung it over the fireplace.  In that area there is a lot of free gold, real fine stuff, and there is flake and small nuggets especeally near the old stamp mill and tailing piles.  Anyway, I gave my interest in the claims to the other guys when we moved from Washington state, to Ohio and then to Alabama.  What I am in the process of doing with the detector is going to some of the old Confederate battle sites, that's what I will be doing in the spring.
