you can disable it in Device Manager or in your BIOS... or in the Sound settings in Control Panel.

Was this a recent change today? From what I heard this morning, you have to do the upgrade first so your key gets upgraded to Win10 and then you can do the clean install.

Nope.. you can download like I did and make a DVD and now I am making a USB.

Only thing needed is a product key.

The only nvidia problem I have seen, so far, is their gaming experience thing and streaming. It is on by default. That causes definite lag when booting the system and potentially at runtime. I disabled the service since I dont need it. No more problems.

Be sure not to go to any of those porn sites or it will get stored on the cloud forever. And not just anonymously. I wonder if MS would ever get hit with subpoenas for such information by divorce lawyers and the like.

Have you tried going into the bios and disabling the onboard sound? Once it is off Windows shouldn't try to update it, otherwise go ahead and let it update it won't hurt anyhting even if you aren't using it.

Yep they have been on SP1 for a while.  2 of the machines are Win7 Pro and are fairly fresh installs with minimal additional software installed, AV, Chrome, Office & Media Monkey. The other  is a 2 yr old install of Win7 premium with loads of crap installed across 3 hard drives. I have backups of the important stuff and I'm going to let it do the upgrade as is and see what happens.

The Win 8.1 machine is done and is now a Win10 machine and working fine so far. This one is a recent OS reset, updated all the win 8.1 updates and have Chrome, AV, Kodi and PopcornTime installed. It's a Quad core J1900 Celeron I use as my htpc.

In all likelihood, if you do not perform an in-place upgrade, and if you have an OEM license, you will need to install and activate the download with the OEM key, therefore perpetuating the OEM license.  From what I understand, if you do an in-place upgrade, you are effectively converting your OEM license to a Retail license.  Then later, you can use the new Retail key to install Win10 wherever you want - including on a new computer or a rebuild.  This is what I have read, but the reality is actually up to MS.
