Sooo if anyone knows me I am a huge history buff. Celtic being my favorite subject and Tudor history along with Ancient Egypt. Anyways as lame as it sounds I've always taught myself son to live life to his fullest, and to live his dreams. Well my dream is to move to Scotland, and this would make my life complete. I've saved 3 grand already, but I'm curious does anyone know how good jobs are in the bigger city? Unfortunately can't take my nursing degree with me so maybe it's time for something new? Or maybe I'll find a nice chunk of land and live off it. ?

Your best bet is to stay in your profession as you'll be classed as an immigrant and it is easier to get in if you have a job to go to or profession, unless you're a refugee. There is a body, forget their name, who deals with different educational award equivalents, that should be your first step, google it. Like the rest of the UK Scotland has many unemployed, do not think you'll get another job easily, you'll need at least £25,000 to last a year if you don't get a job. Good luck Queenie if you follow your dreams but better to visit on holiday first and look around. Sharpe is right about the rain, and the snow, and the gales, and the midges - heaven.

Thank you Rob!!

One more thing Queenie for the types of jobs you're likely to get you need things called dbs checks, a basic check you have no criminal record and do not pose a danger to people you work with. Unfortunately this can only be done for nationals, non nationals will need to prove to the uk government their past with their own governments. There is information and forms on uk gov website how to do this, reason I mention it is the time it takes, it all needs to be in place before arrival.

Wallace!!  Wallace!! Wallace!!!

Sweet @Icequeen, follow your dreams, or opportunities.

I did, after divorce, and I ended up in the "Bay Area (still looking for apartment, by the way.  BUT, I like women cleaning up after me . . . just sayin' . . .), and I absolutely love it "down here."  California is beautiful, and went up to "Yreka (and Happy Camp)" just last week.

Beautiful country, though scarred with black trees from last year's burning season . . .

"Down here" comes from our usual saying in Alaska, the "Lower 48" states.

Maps suck, because they always show Alaska and our sister-state, Hawaii, as 1" x 1" insets to the left of the "Contiguous, Lower 48" states . . .

Texas would fit inside Alaska, without any of its borders touching any of ours--2.5 times the size of Texas, she is . . .

Alaska comprises--fully--20% the land area of the "Lower 48."

Google it.

Okay, Sweetie, what was your original question?

Hmm?

Lol.

Love ya, babe!

Wait a minute! You must demonstrate your ability to contribute something in order to “get in”.  Obviously the UK is as archaic and racist with its immigration laws as Canada and Mexico. ?

You only have to put some words on a piece of paper @FUNky

@Icequeen  Once you're through the border controls you can loaf about and claim benefits from our state, just tell them you're claiming asylum and you'll be in a 6 room mansion in no time, all paid for by us people who pay into the system but can't claim any help from it...

Yea thats right Queenie, the best way to get in is to A/. Claim Asylum (Tell them about Chile mistreating you) or fight abroad for ISIS and we'll pay for legal help to get you into the country, once you are here you can join a thing called the 'Gravy Train', I've heard it's great. Unfortunately having worked my entire life I'm excluded, which is fantastic, don't work as half your pay goes in taxes we have this great thing called 'social security', they get the other half. They've just taken the free tv licences off 75 year olds (blind people get half price???), whilst paying millions to actors and executives, and our MP's have free meals, huge pensions and wait for it - vote for their own pay rises, it's the land of milk and honey, hurry before it ends.

@AyaqGuyaq

Midges are called by many different things. "bite-em no see-em" the french Canadians call them the "BURN FLY" In Canada we have a biting insect so small you can not see it on your skin without great difficulty. They are opaque. almost see through. Their bite sets your skin on FIRE (hence the BURN FLY) They are ruthless and bite like an alligator or rattle snake! Well if they were the same size as an alligator or rattle snake they could wipe out a small town in one evening!  They are so small they can pass through a normal window screen. My camp windows have special tighter woven screens to keep midges out.

Midges are many different flies of many different species But where I live in Canada we are referring to those little bastards mentioned above!

I was professionally Guiding out of a Salmon Lodge on the Miramachi River in 1996. The pool we drew one particular morning I knew would be FULL of Bite-em no See-em's I warned my Sports of the impending assault we were about to receive. I insisted everyone put on DEET to help combat the inevitable "no my sports said we don't believe in using DEET. Point taken I sad BUT I really strongly suggest for this one occasion it's advisable to apply a liberal application of the nectar of the Gods DEET!.

Well 15 minutes standing on the banks of the river I see out of the corner of my eye my sports starting to experience the full onslaught of a wonderful hatch of the BURN FLIES. Obviously I didn't let on I noticed lololololololol. Oh about another 5 minutes went by and the sports spoke up "Gee you weren't kidding these things are eating us alive, How can you stand it?" I could have told them I didn't have my DEET but I think they learned a hard lesson.

When you Hire a guide listen to him! I chuckle every time I think of that morning.

Midges I HATE them.

First the good news your
Nursing degree  is transferable to the UK...here you go .... if its Hospital Nursiing !  Nursing Homes[Retirement Homes then maybe]....http://www.brutish-nursing.com/inter.html

Bad News dunno much about Scotland, but before you plunge, look at cost of living ie Rentals, admittadly where i live in South of the UK there Stupid even for an apartment,Hydro as you lot call it not included, every house flat pays a local tax, anything from £1000 upwards per yr on top of water ,gas.electricity bills, but as your single you should get 25% off it[ Council tax that is], travel is a joke catch a train and have a coughing fit, its 2/3rds cheaper to catch a train from California to Washington to DC than to go from John of Groats to Lands ends, yes it rains a lot but other half lived there and says it has some of the most beautiful places to visit,as for Cold your use to it,mind you had a visit from a Canadian relative they complained it was cold i was wearing just a sweatshirt??,they put coats on.good part free Healthcare! well sort of you pay through wages, but that goes into your retirement pension[ which is pathetic]...........

Downside they would rather recruit a eastern European for lower wages, apart from skilled labour everything else is min wage per hour, and you just feel slave to system, you would have to put up with Widow Cranky !!! 1.2 meter  female dwarf Politcal figure who thinks she is Bravehearts cousin

Do A lot of research on wages to accomodation, food and bills....... you could be shocked

Hospital Nurses are in demand...retirement homes well they struggle as no one wants to work in them as long term.down my end they flip homes every 3yrs,wages are low for what they do plus unlike Canada you take exams while working in them......

Scots well there lovely people met quite few even have few friends.........just do not go near Glasgow you wont understand a word there saying lol
