It must be pretty bad because I was just reading NASCAR and Indy has canceled the next couple of weeks racing.  If NASCAR cancels you know it's bad...?

Maybe it’s me but is it completely bad form to be talking about making money off heels of a pandemic?  Please, create a different forum for that talk, it’s nauseating.

Do you believe that governments should do nothing to try to slow the spread? For most people, yes, it will probably be mild and nothing to worry about, but when ICUs are getting overrun and they are having to choose one person over another to have access to ventilation, I imagine that is an awful scenario for medical personnel to go through. The US isn't there yet, but this is what looks like is happening Italy, and what governments are trying to prevent elsewhere.

Hey Sharpe

Thank you for your insight for your correct in that most in the medical field  are profoundly concerned. The outcome for some has been and will be tragic indeed.

I thought it was God Save the Queen?

Regardless, I sing neither, I'd rather sing the iconic chorus of Africa by Toto, which is just over 20 seconds and an absolute banger. ?

Its not a Pandemic. It is people freaking out over virus. So they freak out on the market. They freak out and buy 10 years of toilet paper. The people that turn around and sell toilet paper and hand sanatizer online for tons of money are the people to be sick about.

It is a term used to describe somethings ability to travel over large areas in a short amount of time. Has nothing to do with viruses or death rates ect. So yea this is a pandemic.

P.S. Yea I do not get the toilet paper thing though.

OK Snowflakes the following are facts, ask your parents or Grandparents :-

Long long ago, in a time where commonsense reigned and the only communication was newspapers, if a child in your street got measles or chickenpox etc etc your Mummy (who would now be prosecuted for neglect) took you along with the neighbours kids to play with them. Lo and behold  you hopefully caught it, had a short bad time but your immune system built up the antibodies so that for the rest of your life you were immune, mumps were of special importance to boys. In fact sometimes suckling mothers swapped kids for some feeds so that their antibodies were passed to other children, we learned about this long ago. This is a fact, anything nasty will kill you if your body can't resist it, so in fact giving it to younger people should be encouraged and a natural immunity will follow, however this will not stop any virus from mutating and becoming a killer again. A commonsense approach would be to isolate all weak and susceptible people and let the others go about their business, this gives them time to become immune and an antidote discovered. I personally cannot understand, especially in the modern world trying to isolate all populations, it is obvious to a blind man that this is not and never will work, let nature get on with it, we'll survive.

Go look up the definition of the word 'pandemic' and come back a little smarter.

My mum did this with my sister and I in terms of chickenpox, turns out it was really hard for us to catch it though. ?

H1N1

I’ll just leave that here for those that would like to do a little research on a very deadly Flu virus.  This little guy caused two Pandemics and killed hundreds of thousands in the US and several million worldwide.

There is no way your going convince anyone who doesn’t wish to look at the facts or stats surrounding this. Yes, there were several near misses in the past but I bet there are plenty of people in 1918 who said, it’s just a cough, don’t worry about it...

Here's a good way to look at it. My Kids think I'm overreacting by paying a lot of attention to social distancing not touching my face well trying to not touch my face and washing my hands way to much. If my kids get it they might not even know it or they might get sick. Me on the other hand stand a very good chance of dying. I'm over 60 and have what they like to call mitigating issues. I actually have two out of the top four that kill . Not bad but I do have them. So if I get this right now I'll get really sick hit the ICU and hopefully get out. Ta Da I now have some type of immunity to this thing. Trust me I'm not totally against this method. Just wish my odds were a bit better. I get this thing when it hits our city big time. I doubt there will be a bed for me. A respirator no way plus I do not want to take one away from anybody. So life to me is important very important so this is very very serious stuff. Just because it won't do much to you does not mean it won't hurt other people. The worse thing I've heard is it just kills old people. I like old people there funny and like to tell great stories. I do not want to see them die because some people think this is going over board. I like many have lost a lot of money because of this. Because of my age I do not think I will get it back . And that's just fine by me if it helps slow this thing down so the pros can do their thing and keep as many people alive as possible. Lets help out everybody that needs it anyway we can. Long live toilet paper long live crust old geezers :)

It doesnt matter what pandemic means. All that matters is what people think it means. And to them its a scary word that means the end of everything.

Oh and its not just toilet paper. Its tissue paper. Paper towels. Anything and everything with the word 'anti-bacterial' on it. Various canned goods. Pasta, of all things. Rice. Yes, rice. Wipes. Clorox/bleach. Of course water. Potatoes cleaned out. Including those huge 10 pound bags that most people dont bother with. Large sized bags of cheese.  Eggs all gone.

The store I work at has been full of panicky people for three days buying shit they dont need. And of course when that happens other people... that arent in a panic... go buy shit they dont need because the panicky people are buying everything. So its a snowball effect. When you see many people with shopping carts filled with multiple 24-packs of bottled water, and its not the Fourth of July, then something is wrong. All of this in a crisis largely of our own making. The only conclusion I can reach is that every year the population is getting stupider and stupider.

The Pandemic of 1917 is very interesting, unfortunately we really don't know the real numbers on infected vs deaths due to the info blackout in Europe with the WWI conflict still going. Neither side wanted the opponent to know how bad it was. But if you compare the numbers for infected to deaths it is similar to most Virus episodes we have had before . It is said 500 million infected and 20 million dead which makes that 4% of the infected dying. Fortunitely Medical treatment has come a long way since then. Many died of Aspirin Poisoning then!

The Pneumonia kills 20 to 30,000 people every year, the only reason why I know this is, is because it nearly killed my 5 year old son in 2005. Pneumonia kills .5% of the infected that are reported.

The regular Flu Kills .1% of the infected.  The H1N1 in 2009 and 2010 Hospitalized 300,000 people in the USA alone and between 17,800 and 20,000 died from it, depending on the source making that percentage of deaths per infected at .66%. 1,800 of those dead were Children.

We do need to take this seriously being this appears to be twice as dangerous as Pneumonia but it would be nice if the Media would stop Freaking People Out....

Let's All Carry On And Do Our Very Best!

We Will Beat THIS!
