1st and foremost what type of board and processor do you want to have

Personally I have always preferred AMD for gaming over Intel

Thats the problem Loader I have no idea. :/

But I have always heard AMD was better too. Right now I have an intel, and it does good, but I just am going for a gaming rig atm since that is what I do most of on my computer.

Well! Make sure your parts are compatible with the motherboard and each other..

Also, make sure they fit in the case you're going to buy. :)

newegg hasn't had competitive prices in a long time. So many of the best hardware reviews are leaving the site too.

You will find better prices on amazon.

I love my Alienware X51...Yea it was overpriced to begin with, but you can find some good coupon codes online to reduce the price to what a decent gaming rig would cost if you build it yourself, or within 1-200 without the hassle.

Gossamyr,

What are you going to use your new computer for? What games? Once you figure that out go to the game(s) site and look at there "Recommended Computer Specs". It never hurts to overbuild a system.

Your motherboard is going to limit how much future upgrades you will be able to perform. Also if you are running a 60 hz monitor no need to go crazy on the graphics card since anything over 60 will be clipped.

One more thing, it's better to buy something that will run your games without overclocking...overclocking creates excessive heat and shortens component life.

If you post up your game and monitor specs it will be a lot easier to assist you with your build.

When buying computer parts for a new build look for suppliers that put bundles together.... Some bundles will consist of Processor / motherboard / ram and processor cooling. shop around and compare the bundle prices to individual and you will see that you can save quite a lot that way... Also no issues either with  them not working together
