Hello Everyone,

We have been working on some exciting changes to bring to our COD4 MW community. A little while ago we started recreating the currently deployed Freezetag mod so we can recover the source code. This would have allowed us to make enhancements and introduce new features on top of the currently deployed "xi_mw2_old" mod. Our end goal is to have a COD4x Server running our custom mod with COD4x support built in to it. This has several advantages, namely better network performance, stability, security and anti-cheat features. Here are the two tracks where we are working. 

1. COD4x Server + xi_mw2_old (existing + some enhancements)
2. COD4x Server + COD4x enabled custom mod

We were able to get support from our host (NFO) where they went above and beyond to support COD4x on a managed server. Therefore, we are able to start testing track #1.  Here are the details for this server.

On track #2 we have made great progress but it is a tall order. We had to reconstruct the mod from a deployed binary and it has been challenging to say the least. We are at 60% completion at the moment and it requires more hours. 

I will update this thread as I go, and feel free to provide feedback.

@Sharpe I have fixed the maxpackets cap issue, you can now use 125 and I see notable difference in ping and movement smoothness.

I had connected a couple hours after you made the initial post and was happy to notice that my client showed 'cl_maxpackets 125' without having to set it 🙂

I have added bots that are place-holders for human players. When people join the bots are silently kicked but only if the server is getting full, this is temporary for testing only. I have added advanced admin capabilities but that is only for admins to know. Feel free to jump-in to get your killstreaks and test it. Let me know if you find any issues.

I have found that there's a fundamental difference in how the Reaper killstreak works on COD4x vs vanilla COD4 server. I am working on it, I would advise to keep it off your killstreak loadout until further updates.

I pulled an all-nighter and here are the updates:

  • Activate killstreaks faster e.g RCXD
  • AGM Reaper fixed for COD4x, works differently than vanilla COD4 server, no missile guidance but missiles travel faster
  • Predator has a target lock with boost mode, press SPACE BAR, not hold just press and it will strike the target faster
  • You can now activate killstreaks while in-motion over non-flat surfaces without the killstreak cancelling on you

Bots are for practice and have a fill-in-space logic. As more humans join, the bots will disconnect automatically. I have set the limit to 20 at the moment but admins can change this anytime.

This might be a dumb question but do you need Cod4x to play on this new server? I used to have it but it hurt my eyes. Gameplay was also worse for freezetag. Have you shared the IP address?

I am not sure if Cod4x can hurt your eyes it's a server enhancement over the vanilla cod4 game server. You shouldn't need cod4x client but I do have to test it for vanilla clients. Pretty much everybody I know on the server has cod 4x client installed.

This is my third and greatest laptop as far as capability but I still use an old config that I save for when I have to install the game again. At minimum, Cod4x is "shiny" compared to what I see normally. After playing for a while, my eyes were sore when they normally are not. I must have had Cod4x in the past because my profiles were different too. I'm not using Cod4x but there seems to have been an update to the server today. My eyes are fine.

PSA

As some of you may have discovered that there are a few changes on the main MW2 FreezeTag server, namely the RCXD and the round time limit. They are described as follows:

RCXD (aka Car Killstreak)  - 3 Kills 

  • Activation times will be faster
  • In sudden death, RCXD's lethal capacity has been neutered. It's explosion is silent, and causes no damage regardless of how its triggered (manual or timer expiration)

Misc

  • You can now enter your transforming killstreak mid-air, exceptions are Sentry Gun, Sentry Nade, Defroster Gun

Round Time Limit

  • Regular rounds are 4 minutes and Sudden Death is now 90 seconds
  • This is still under trial phases and plays in to the larger map rotation refactor effort
  • @WldPenguin @ShadyBrady can speak more on this subject
