(radio).. ..I know ,Im getting ready, and if NOTHING happens,at least I have food and water to last me for a while..GOD I hope nothing happens..Been prepare is better than been sorry.. I also have the means to cook hot meals on a small portable charcoal-fueled barbecue. What brought home our lack of preparedness, some years back, was when an earthquake struck. We had no power, no landline phones and no idea what had happened. I actually phoned my office in France (via mobile phone till that network failed due to overload) and asked them to tune the TV into the BBC for me! We had no working battery-powered radio (we would habitually tune the hi-fi in and that was mains-powered). We do nowadays! I don't believe the end-of-the-world stuff for December this year but it is wise to make adequate preparations to sustain yourself and your family for several days, if necessary, until the authorities can respond. Natural disaster, failure of infrastructure (power, gas and water supplies) and terrorist threats have elevated the chances you may need to be independent for a little while sometime in your life. And, I don't do stale water - for that matter, I have not consumed water without caffeine or other additives since I was a kid. Most credible myan researchers and anthropologists will tell you its not the world ender people are saying. just the end of one cycle and the start of another. However everyone should be prepared for disasters and civil unrest. I think it is our responsibility as citizens to be prepared to provide for our familes in response to a disaster and the fall out from it. People far to often depend on the government to give them supplies and immediately make everything better following a disaster. It takes time to recover from these events and help will not be there immediately. Be it a tornado, wild fire, hurricane, tsunami, earthquake, or an EMP just to name a few. I have preperations that will allow me to provide my family with food, water, first aid and protection in case of a disaster.
