Have you thought about civil court? You still have the right to sue him as an individual for the harm he caused her. I would suggest hiring a real attorney, and going after the puke this way. I recently dealt with a lady who was going through a similar thing. The punk even went to her daughter's school and tried to pick her up. Fortunately the school stopped it. The courts did nothing, and this lady had been bruised and battered. Pathetic court system here in the United States, where DA's make deals without the victims ever knowing. This lady eventually moved out of state to escape this animal. Biggest thing here, remember your family needs you whole, healthy and free. Don't give in to any bad ideas.
