How Did You Invent Or Come Up With Your In-Game Name

just thought it would be fun to know how people decided on there in-game names.

 

when i first started gaming in a game called Joint Operations i wanted to come up with a cool name. Something that would strike fear in the hearts of the enemy.

i was young....... i came up with RockKiller...... I know retarded right lol. Then i joined my first clan called NLB and rockkiller was too big to fit with the tags so i just went with killer.

then after i found out that NLB was a hacker clan that supported and invited hackers i left NLB and wanted to change my name. I was trying to think of a new name and an American red cross commercial came on the tv. so for about a year i was AmericanRedCross. Then i started a clan called GRIM and yet again my name was too big.

i shortened it to RedCross and was GRIM-RedCross for many years

after awhile i got tired of being called Red so i shortened it once again to just Cross.

This topic came up a while ago' but good to renew for the new members. Mine goes back to the mid 90's when we could game on work's server. Started with DukeNukem, then Unreal tounament. NicktheGrip>XI< joined my employer' and then we started COD1 then later COD2. I was HUNGARIANASSASSIN until a colleague started calling me LtLaszlo and been that since. Laszlo is my real first name,- dad was from Hungary.

A few years ago when I first started playing COD with my son and his friends, they would always get really pissed off when I would constantly beat them. They would always say they lost to some little old man, and when I finally started playing online it seemed like the logical name. I'm not little or an old man at 52, but it seems like a good fit.

On the internet, that names was already taken up by the time I got to the World Wide Web in the late 90's. At that time my truck was a 78 Ford F150 with a 351M in it.

I intended on someday modifying it to the 400, but never got around to it.

But anyway, on the internet I became Simplemod400. When I got my >XI< tags, "it is too long" LOL was the message I got with my new tags, so I had to remove the 400 so my name could fit on COD4 with my tags added.

Mine's pretty obvious if you take a look at my Avatar. Astronomy is my passion. A night at a dark-sky site with my telescope and a few good friends is the best tonic for the soul that I can think of. When I do public outreach with my club, seeing a child's or a senior's eyes light up when they see the rings of Saturn through the eyepiece for themselves for the first time is immensely satisfying.

So i had issues with Origin and when making my name i wanted to say Kiss my sacks to ea support

They got my origin to work and asked what name i wanted And Tater2Sacks was made.

In bf3 i got to be a admin and the name did not fit so now i am half the sack i use to be. TaterSAcks_Xi_Adm

I started playing multiplayer online games a long time ago, I think the first one I played was Ghost Recon. I had to come up with a screen name, and Bama was natural because I'm a big Alabama Football fan. Those that have been around here a while knew me as PTBama, because my first clan (of like 5 guys) was Project Treadstone. All those guys moved on, and I played almost exclusively on XI servers for years, so when I became a member the PT stayed in my name for a long time. I finally got around to dropping it a year or so back, and that's why I'm BAMA.

 

Thats BAM-AH (as in Alabama) not BOM-A (as in Barrack OBAMA).

i first played online when I was like 32yrs old and played the first redfaction.I made freinds with two of the best hackers and thy had a modded clan.the first redfaction you could change the charactor and weapons and play the game.once you figured out how to do it ...it was insane.that game to this day is fucken great but at the time they didnt follow it up right away and it dyed out.our flying mod clan -meaning our charactor would jump any height and accelerate at blinding speeds and shoot tons of ammo or shells also we could blow huge holes or even the entire floor of the map out with our weapons we changed,it was crazy..my kids gave me my first name .it was cobra after gi joe cobra and i put ~fib after that since im from illinois and wisconsin people call us fibs-fucken illinois bastards -so i was cobra~fib/that game died and our undefeated mod clan RM rude modz died out and turned into a day of defeat clan called-Di-Damage Inc which I named after mettallica.that game died with that clan and I took the name when i went to cod2.I then was Damage_inc~fib...at that time i played with 420 clan /fm clan all the united noobs till cod4 came out then i left and they split and now i found my home here at Xi as Damage _inc

We were all known by our screen names and most people chose song titles for their names. I chose a portion of a lyric and got a lot of laughs when they saw my name. It was originally BurningBright. Over time, I was embarrassed by my name. I have convictions and I try to be good. I chose the verse you see in my signature to be my theme verse and try to live up to that though I usually fail. So now my name is a nod to the verse......."Let your light so shine......"

I started gaming over 10 years ago and I used to play with my brothers and lots of cops in the video game Outlaws. I was RunawayAngel. This comes from a song my daddy used to listen to when I was growing up and he called me his lil runaway. I was the baby so I was NOT very spoiled..lol..and Im so NOT a daddys girl. When I turned 18 and ready to move off to start my own life, my daddy didnt wanna let his last baby to leave and told me I would just have to runaway.

In all my clans this was my name. Until I came to XI. I shortened it to make it fit. But I will always be RunawayAngel for my daddy!

Another friend in high school, whose name is also Tom, went by the nickname "Mot." Maybe he was dyslexic or something, I don't know, lol. He started calling me Mot, too, and it stuck. I, in turn, called another Tom Mot and it became briefly fashionable to be called Mot if your name was Tom. Fast forward to the internet and the era of usernames. For a while, a username like "Mot" worked just fine, but eventually 3 character usernames fell out of favor. Long about that time I was starting my internet radio station (Girls Rock Radio) and adding "dj" to the beginning seemed a way to connect another part of my professional life to my online persona. But I keep the "dj" part lower case as being a radio Disk Jockey really isn't a formal skill for me (even though GRR is the premier destination for the music of women artists in the rock, pop, and alternative music genres on the internet today,) so being lowercase is my way of de-emphasizing that skill. Plus, it kind of looks cooler with the mixed caps. Unfortunately, 5 characters is still too short in many situations, so I sometimes have to add other stupid shit on the back end to pad it out. That's my story.

Anyway, I was drunk (believe it or not) and watching Reno-911. And the following scene came up and just stuck in my head, I almost went with Boots of Escaping, but it wouldn't fit and I knew it would get shortened to Boots so I took the name from the guy in the prison cell

I am just plain ole mean and ornery! Well now that thats is out of the way the real truth is it comes from my highschool days. In phys ed class we would play football and I mean tackle not the sissy flag crap. There happened to be like 50 sophies and freshmen and about 15 of us juniors and seniors and when they would give me the ball I would not run to out run the other team but instead run to where the group of them were. I just lowered my head , much like they say I do in Cod4 ace, and dare them to tackle me. Thet tried really hard but they just couldn't quite ever get it done. Then one day one of them laughingly called me "Bigmeandean" and it stuck.
