custom built PC?

Anyone have a PC built to order? Good experience? Bad? An option in the back of my mind that I am considering instead of building another one myself.

Can't say; build my own.  There's a certain satisfaction in it; for me, anyway.  Gonna hold off until the prices come down after silly season & the new AMD architecture drops in a few months' time; should bring the prices of extant hardware down.

correct  Tim  Feb is the transision for new stuff and get a deal on older tech.  save cash alot building own PC. keep in mind the parts should compliment each other, eg, chip set & CPU along with RAM timings, PCI-e to video PCI-e version are some things to concider and cooling lay out be it air or water.

with new GPU i have to water cool it or use a PCI-e riser cable for video card exhaust right on my chipset fan cooler. heat kills electronics.

Make absolute sure that it's from a Reputable source that isn't going to cheap out on parts especially the Power Supply and motherboard. Your parts will be limited to certain brands. In the current market with all of the Price Scalping the video card will cost more than double what the rest of the PC costs to build.

The difficulties in getting a modern GPU at any semblance of a reasonable price are too numerous to count. So it led me to looking into this option since sooner or later it will be time for a system upgrade anyway. However even then, I would still want a lot of options to choose from for parts. I also dont want any lockout bs or bloatware like dell does.

It seems system builders have a greater shot at getting their hands on them. However even then the simple economics of supply and demand come into play. Leaving out the aforementioned scalping.  The card makers say it wont be until next summer (2022) that things stabilize. But they said the same thing about things stabilizing around this previous april or may. Which of course didnt happen. So I have little faith in their predictions.

Had a friend a few months back and we got one over at CyberPowerPC.  R9 3900, AIO 240 cooler with one of the upper end AMD GPUs.  Lots of ram and fastest 1Tb Nvme drive at the time we could get.  Ran about $2100.  https://www.cyberpowerpc.com/  Well built and have had no problems with the rig.

I've always built my own.... you can customize it based on your budget and get better parts and you get satisfaction

I built mine in 2013 (and others with/for my children later).

My one advice is to choose high end parts, even if it's expensive at first because, in the long run, it's money saving.

My computer still perfectly works and is quite powerful. I only change the GPU (for a Gigabyte GTX 1080) at the end of 2016 and add a SSD 2To in June 2021.

It's not the case, of course, if you always want to be at the edge of the PC technology... But is it really useful depending on your needs?

stay away from cyberpower and ibuypower for the love of god they are a piece of crap , I have had several of them in my shop for repairs and they use the cheapest parts known to man. If you are not a die hard Nvidia must have person you can buy a AMD gpu off the shelf at Microcenter.

CW4, wait until your friend wants to upgrade his gpu he will most likely have to upgrade his power supply as well, cyberpower uses bare minimum power supplys in there machines and when you want to upgrade the gpu to somethimg more powerfull you have to get a bigger one as well.

If you want to get your hands on newest gen vid card might have to get a prebuilt. I bit the bullet and went this route.I always did build my own but could not get a 30 series GPU. Here is what i chose and was quality name brand parts.

I've always built all my computers but I'd say its better to get a pre-built now. PC gaming has gotten really popular these last 5 years and this whole crypto hype/mining isnt helping either. If I were to buy a new PC right now, Id get a pre-built since its so damn hard to get a good graphics card/CPU. 

I'd try Bestbuy, Amazon, Newegg (good luck with that tho )

Recommended pre-built companies to check out that are reputable and stand by their products? Other than the ones already mentioned? Do they handle parts that go bad or do the buyers of their systems?

fbi open up, he really didn't get a pre-build.  He told me that I has a $2500 limit and build something fast for him.  As I couldn't get parts unless I paid scalper prices I went to Cyberpower and started selecting parts.  I think he has a Corsair RM1000 ps in the thing, plus a Sabrent SB-RKTQ4-1TB as his boot drive, forget the mobo but it's running a R9 3900x and AIO cooled.  He isn't a gamer but does do dome mining so he's got a RTX 3060ti.

Forgot to add.  It was easier for them to put this thing together and tested than drive the 200 miles round trip to find out that "Houston we have a problem."

i had that with 3080Ti and i not drive 200 mi  The card was to big to fit mid tower, HDD cage in the way and GPU exhaust directly on MB chipset cooler   have to go water cooled GPU or riser cable to use GPU card.

as to cheap builders  they will replace with same crap till warrantee runs out and your on your own, most 1 yr warrantee for parts.  As FBi found out wating for warrantee work

Been building my own since the 286 days.  Back when hard drives where 4 times the size now.  And 5 1/4 floppies where the norm.   I buy most of my gear now a days from Microcenter.  I have two stores close by.  Last Christmas my daughters husband wanted a gaming PC for Christmas.  Well I didnt have time to put one together so we bought him a prebuilt gaming rig from Microcenter.  Their Power Spec brand.  I have to say its a nicely built system that has had zero issues a year later.  All name brand components.  And very little bloatware installed.  If I remember just a trial of Norton's Antivirus.  You might check them out.  If you live close to one of their stores you can always go there too.  Huge ass stores !!!  Link below

My second monitor is due for an upgrade as well so might go for that first this coming monday and continue to wait and and see what happens with gpu's. And I have my property tax bill due as well.  I understand the supply problem in general with everything chip related. Some of it is understandable, some of it is nothing but greed. Likely partially nation-state related as well. Who knows what countries are part of the game (no pun intended). So its frustrating with gamers and indies alike.

The nearest microcenter is in southern california. We used to have a big Fry's up here but bye bye they went. Actually its pretty stupid that they dont have one near Silicon Valley of all places but have four in NY. Not going to drive a 12 hour round trip for a video card.   But kudos to you for having two near you.

Speaking of monitors, which would you go for if you can get a reasonable deal considering each ones capabilities and such? Ive had good luck with asus and samsung but never had an lg or acer. More for gaming and it would compliment the one I already have for production. Also, cannot say I am up on the 'sync' thing and while I have an nvidia now, who knows what I will have in the future.

I think you would be good with either the Asus or the LG.

I have two LG's that are ten years old and still flawless.

I have a 1080p 27" Asus that is 3 years old and still flawless too.

Both good products IMO,the Asus is a little bright though.
