As a rule of thumb, depending on how compatible you want to make your map, I recommend keeping your FF size to no more than 15mb. At least for a first map. Some really good mappers have gotten away with some very nice maps that are significantly bigger than 15. But again, they are really good and know all the tricks to get every last bit out of a map. IWD's, have at it.
