I worked for Chrysler Canada,1st on the line spray painter, then metal shop from there to the audit bay where I road tested 2 vans/day and check them for all kinds of things. And finally after 30 years I finished off in Federal Torque dept. Then retired at age 51 June 1st/2003,so now I do FUCK ALL and have enjoyed it for 13 years come June 1st 2016.So I could've kept working till the end of this year till I turned 65,but that meant I would've kept some ones kid out of a job for all this time.Quite a few people I met through work didn't get to see one penny of their pension. In fact my partner who I worked with for 10 years on the same job said he was going to work a few more years, well sorry to say he didn't make it.Then there are quite a few more I know same age as me who decided to work longer and same thing, they are not here anymore.

Mule, before I took the vehicle on a road test,I had to torque all underneath all steering components, all lugnuts,a bunch of electrical components under the hood, headlight aim, paint finish, water test all hinges and bolts on doors, take the vehicle out to the BSR track(bumps, squeaks and rattles) then on an 18 mile road trip stop off at a Tim Hortons Coffee Shop and bring back 6 coffees for the 6 of us who did this job.when I retired I was making $28/hour.In total I worked about 3-4 hrs./day.Great job,but I had to work a lot of years to be able to get that job.Oh and all the torque wrenches were plugged into a computer so you could not skip any part that had to be checked.

I learned all hands on, no schooling. So I wouldn't know what type of classes to take

In today's world they are going to need some engineering for starters.  Mechanical and so on, I have a friend that has taken the long way around and loves it, But yes some sort of engineering classes will definitely allow them a leg up.

I have had many jobs,  I built roads and underground utilities and ran heavy equipment in college days. After meeting GG went into management at a large auto parts chain in Florida, Loving cars and knowing my way around It felt good and was a nice fit, But like life, moved on when I came back  to Kentucky. For the most part I have been in warehousing and logistics for 25 plus years now. for the last 20 i have been at a  family owned business that has about 200000 square feet of space. We warehouse for any type of company, Right now a local dairy is one of our biggest user. they keep all their dry goods and packaging in our building and three times a week we supply their production. Also doing about 30000sgr for a company out of Brampton called Zochem. They are major supplier for zinc oxide in the south and east US. I ship and receive over 2.5 million pounds a month... I like it very much, Never a dull moment, Not stuck in a office all day and still can watch @@PigDog  do his porn when I want to.......

Like most of you, I have had a number of jobs. I am a engineer by schooling and initially started out designing production lines for the food industry, (chunky soup, prego spaghetti sauce etc.). It was really diverse and challenging. From there someone saw that I had some skills and I progressively moved through the management ranks primarily in operations and got a reputation as a turn around guy for businesses that were loosing money and were very inefficient.  Tons of pressure and not always the best of working conditions. I assure you you don't make too many friends in that line of work but it was one heck of a learning experience. Left doing that and ran manufacturing operations for the office products industry. Did that for about 10 years but the 7/24 environment and the phone never stopped ringing kinda wore me out. Thought I would take a break and do some consulting and  realized I was working harder than ever. Dah... what a idiot I was. With a bit of being in the right place at the right time I found  my current job.  Being doing it for about 11 years now and am the VP of Operations for Canada for a multi-national company here in Toronto. Retirement should be in the future but honestly after 38 plus years work is still fun...and heck they pay me pretty well at the same time.....
