New COD4 Server on West Coast USA

Hi folks,

In case you missed Rugger's Clan PM, we have an additional COD4 server in US West Coast. For folks in the midwest, or west coast this is a great addition, playing with lower ping and in Pacific Time Zone.

The NY server is a wasteland from 8pm-1am  PST. This is the time when us West Coasters like to game. If we can have a following on this server, it would benefit the players and we will attract a Latin American player base as well.

Going from a 30-34 ping to a 78-82 ping is noticeable.  

Feels smooth but hit recognition is a bit slow. Firing a semi auto or bolt action rifle directly at a stationary target, you can hit the button and literally wait 1-1.5 seconds before it registers a hit. Shooting at a moving target you have to aim slightly Behind the target to hit it.

 

More testing is needed and a good server Stress test is needed. I only tried 1 of shotguns and the semi auto assault rifle and a sniper rifle and a couple pistols. 

 

Good thing is that Catching and Throwing back a Grenade works the way it should. You can even play Hot Potato with the Semtex grenades if you have 2-3 people with quick-ish reflexes lol.

It's been broken on the main server for a long time. I'm sick of catching the damn things and trying to throw them back, only to have them blow up in my face the second that I release it. @Ruggerxi can you fix that junk on the main server pretty please?

@Ruggerxi can we set this one up as a redirect server, and increase the number of players to 30-32 whichever is the stable max. Thank you all for spending time to test this out, I am excited about a location balanced server.

 

If some Europeans can login and share feedback that would be great as well.

This mod is the exact same as the main server, I just copied and pasted the files

I will update the server to redirect over to there. Do we already need to increase the # of slots?

Ping went from 19-20 to 72-73.  Its laggier for me

I was killing it in game.  Of course I was playing by myself......

I was thinking ahead, but I realize there might be a cost to higher slots. We are fine for now. Thanks.

It is expected for East coast and European players to get a higher ping. What's interesting is that Australians got 70ms shaved off of theirs, was not expecting that.

 

To re-iterate the goal of this additional server is to attract more players in nearby time zones and have virtually 24/7 server play-ability of this game - both East & West coast.

Best ping Latin americans get is in Miami or Atlanta servers def not west  

But this is very good for australians as they are a lot closer to this server and anyone from brisbane or sydney would get 160-170 ping

You are right, I was thinking states going east, Mexico and further down south.

Its not broken. It was made that way due to complaints about the marty aspect of it. Also because otherwise it negated the very idea of a 'sticky' grenade (both for the owner and an enemy throwback). If anything, that part was broken. Semtex in those games that had it did not allow for pickups. So it was also an attempt at consistency. For disclosure... I enjoyed doing it myself now and then if I was cornered. Really funny but not fair either.

I am in the Seattle / Tacoma area of Washington state. I usually get 98 - 104 on main. I was getting pretty stable 50 on the new server.

The hit registration was freaking amazing.  Seemed like that was the case for all of us. All of us were hitting more head shots and generally killing each other quicker. None of the 'shooting through targets' that I sometimes get on the main server. I loved it.

I originally played for years in the Midwest with a 40 - 50 ping. So the improved ping 'felt' great and I was doing amazing. I never knew ping made such a difference (I suspected). Play a game on the main server then jump to the west server - it is like a night and day difference you can feel immediately. 

I think some of the west coasters would destroy everyone if we had pings reversed with the east coasters. I finally have an excuse for playing shitty nowadays. Can't be that I'm getting old and not as good as I once was right?   ,,|,,
